If you want to get involved, discuss park issues, meet neighbors etc... then please join the Hawthorne Park Friends group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2939284536197583 The Friends of Hawthorne Park is a group of neighborhood volunteers who have come together to support Hawthorne Park, Hawthorne’s community park at 12th & Catharine Streets. Its mission is to ensure that the Park, which opened i

n July, 2012, remains a beautiful and vibrant community resource – safe, clean, and the venue for community events and performances. The Friends organize and raise funding for free events such as the Live Jazz in Hawthorne Park concert series, Family Movie Nights in Hawthorne Park, fall Live Shakespeare, an annual Halloween Party, and Christmas music concerts. The Friends also w**d and tend Park planting beds, keep the Park clean, and monitor the Park for security and maintenance problems. The Friends lead Hawthorne’s participation in the semi-annual Love Your Park cleanup program sponsored by the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department, and are the liaison with PPR. Friends volunteers participated in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Green Machine program, under which new plantings were designed and planted to replace plants that died over the Park’s first winter, and to introduce a variety of beautiful new flowering plants into the Park. We had 17 amazing volunteers who swept the sidewalks, planted 37 new plants, pulled countless w**ds, spread compost and trimmed trees. THANK YOU!

Check out our new native plant areas in the large garden bed! 65 new plants comprising of 10 native species were added. We are so excited to see them grow, flower and pollinate! 🌺🐝🦋

Reminder to please keep pets and children out of the garden, so our plants can thrive! 🌱
