Bruce had 13 teeth and 1 useless head lump removed yesterday! At 14 years old, he’s here to remind us that it’s never too late to have a little work done.

If we could shout from the rooftops about how important dental care is for pets and how many pet parents are priced out of being able to provide it, we would. When left untreated, dental disease can lead to issues in other organs, including the heart, liver, and kidneys.

We know dental care can be a huge financial burden. That’s why we prepare to provide some degree of dental care to every senior pet we take on. We’re so grateful for your support so that we can help these old heads get the care they need! Maybe we should start keeping a monthly tally of how many teeth we’ve extracted from our senior pets. You know, for science. 🤔

MEET NOOK!
This little senior gentleman was surrendered to Philly’s animal control shelter after his former owner reported that he was suddenly withdrawn and did not want to be petted. He entered the shelter with a pretty nasty skin infection from an untreated flea allergy. His belly and back were bald and itchy, no wonder he didn't want to be touched! Now that the flea infestation is gone, his coat is filling in beautifully, and he has had a chance to heal, he is the most lovable little man! Nook is so deserving of a loving retirement home and now is your chance to find your tiny soul-pet!

Nook is around 12-13 years old and loves to cuddle, play, and will follow you all around the house like a polite shadow. You’ll always find him purring! Nook is always happy to be around people and will flop on his side and show you his belly whenever you enter the room. Nook lived with young children in his last home. He isn’t currently living with other animals and would need a slow introduction to new dog and cat residents, which we recommend when adding any new pet to your home. Nook is one-of-a-kind and will fit in any home looking for a mild-mannered, social little cat who won’t be afraid to greet new guests and who will always look forward to you coming home after a long day at work. Could he be yours?

Nook has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. We recommend staying on top of routine monthly flea treatments to avoid another allergic reaction. He otherwise doesn’t require any specialty care.

Unfortunately, during Norman’s vet visit yesterday we discovered an oral mass. Oral masses in cats are more often malignant and aggressive unfortunately; squamous cell carcinoma being the most common type.

We’re still waiting on some of Norman’s lab results, but we’ll now be shifting our focus to keeping him as comfortable and happy as possible. Thankfully, Norman doesn’t need much help in the happiness department. He’s a total muffin.

We’re so thankful Norman was found when he was and isn’t left to suffer alone as a stray in the city. 🥹

Wishing Dewey a HAPPY ADOPTION!

Dewey, fka Chico at ACCT Philly, has officially been adopted by his foster mom, Lauren! He came to the shelter at 15 years old after his family experienced housing troubles.

Lauren says Dewey is one of the best things that’s ever happened to her, so we’d say this one was definitely meant to be. 🥹

And we already know he’s going to make the BEST foster brother to more senior pets in need. In fact, he already has a brand new foster sister who recently joined us from a local shelter. We can’t wait to introduce her!

Norm’s microchip tells us he’s around 13 years old. He was brought to ACCT Philly as a stray by a member of the public who was worried about his condition. Norman is skinny, has severe dental disease, thyroid disease, an upper respiratory infection, and is FIV positive. In other words, he’s just our type! Special thanks to new foster, Hailey, for giving him the shot he deserves.

Norman is headed to our vet on Monday for a full work up and so we can begin the process of getting him cleared for his dental surgery. You can make a tax-deductible donation towards his care here or:

One week with Zilly!

Brazilly joined us from the shelter last week after being surrendered due to her medical needs. Zilly’s doing great in foster care - most of her matting has been brushed out and her cold is resolving so she’s eating and drinking like a champ. She’s the perfect little bathroom attendant. Just a *little* Pequeno update! 🤏

Keno had both eyes surgically removed eight weeks ago after arriving at the shelter as a stray with painful, severely inflamed eyes caused by glaucoma. His vision had already been gone for some time, so adjusting to life without his eyes has been surprisingly easy for him. And most importantly, he’s clearly so much happier now that he’s finally free from chronic pain.

20-YEAR-OLD FLUFFY IS SAFE!

Fluffy joined us from ACCT Philly where she urgently needed placement after developing a shelter-acquired upper respiratory infection. She was surrendered to the shelter two weeks ago and quickly became sick due to the stress of shelter life. We’re happy that she’s now safe and sound in a foster home where she can enjoy some peace and quiet and hopefully recover more quickly.

We’re not going to lie, Fluffy’s in pretty rough shape. She’s lost weight since becoming sick and is also dealing with arthritis. She’ll see our vets tomorrow for a thorough evaluation so we can better understand what she needs and come up with a medical plan. Should Fluffy have days, weeks, or months, we’ll make sure that time is spent comfortably.
