UESF PLEASE BE ADVISED - WE ARE EXPERIENCING HIGHER THAN NORMAL APPLICATION VOLUMES. PLEASE EXPECT DELAYS. The program continues today.

UESF stabilizes housing for families facing a housing crisis by addressing their immediate needs and removing the barriers to long-term stability. UESF is committed to a holistic, preventive, and cost-efficient approach to assisting vulnerable families impacted by housing crises. We are a one-stop shop that offers immediate resources and empowers families to address the root causes of their utilit

y and housing crisis. Established in 1983, UESF focused exclusively on providing emergency utility assistance for our first 26 years. This financial aid, delivered through utility grants, helped families facing utility shut-offs remain in their homes. Every dollar provided is matched by our utility partners, doubling our impact. In recent years, UESF has come to see utility assistance as part of a larger housing stability issue. Weโ€™ve expanded our programs to address the broader housing challenges facing low-income families. This allows us to focus on a more comprehensive goal: housing stabilization. As part of our housing stabilization strategy, we partner with multiple community organizations and seek all resources available to help keep families in their homes.

Shelbyโ€™s Story

Shelby was trying hard to make ends meet as a single mother of two children. Following a legal battle over a landlord repair dispute, she and her children were evicted from their home, and with no place to go, ended up in a shelter. Due to her past financial and property struggles, she had also acquired a large gas bill of more than $1,300, which was keeping her and her children from accessing permanent housing. Shelby then contacted UESF for assistance.

SOLUTION - Immediate Utility Assistance UESF helped Shelby pay off her gas bill and get a fresh start on her utilities. This also qualified her and her children for permanent housing, and a chance to move out of the shelter.

TODAY Shelby and her children have moved into a new home, and are stable once again. With her bills current, and an affordable place to live, sheโ€™s focused on keeping her expenses down, and paying her bills on time.
