Basketball is a team sport, but this season these individuals encapsulated aspects of the game that every team on any level need in order to rise above from a collection of parts into a stronger unified cohesive force. This is part of the message sports can teach us about life. As humans we are a collection of strengths and weaknesses and everything in between. None of us our without flaws. On our own through determination and grit, we can get places but by working together we can transcend.

Rarely if ever the tallest player on the court, Keyon still managed to dominate on the boards, finishing 2nd in rebounding for the league and 3rd in scoring. On a team with two of the league’s top guards, Keyon could dominate his man 1 on 1 but was perhaps more likely to let his guards cook and feast on the scraps if they missed, often collecting two offensive rebounds on the same possession before his defender even jumped once. An unselfish player that you could easily plug and play and watch excel on any team, you Keyon, are the real MVP.

Never one to make his presence heard, ALWAYS one to make his presence felt, Tahir often seen in his trademark Chicago Bulls basketball shorts is this years Mr Basketball. In a league with plenty of good natured chirping, it would be a mistake to take Tahir’s quiet nature as lacking in confidence. Double teamed or with the ball down 1 with ten seconds to go, Tahir’s heart rate probably never raised above that of a sleeping bear with its hand in an empty honey jar. Making threading the needle passes look like a walk in the park, or going up with picturesque 3 point shooting form, Tahir made it all look easy. On a fast break with an out of control defender barreling down sure to make what would be a foul in all 4 major sports incoming, no matter, it’s Tahir picking himself up off the ground, and headed to the free throw line for an And 1. If not, it’s a quick inhale before swishing consecutive free throws to the applause of his parents in the crowd.

(REST OF THE CAPTION IN THE COMMENTS BECAUSE UNLIKE TAHIR I AM NOT GOOD AT KEEPING THINGS SHORT AND BRIEF, smh 🤦‍♂️ )

Thank you for offering a safe space for our players to cultivate joy, creativity, wellness, and inspiration. We are so thankful to have a partner that is deeply rooted in their community.

Our doors may be closing this season, but you'll know where to find us when Season 8 tips off!

Until then, reach out to us on Facebook or Instagram to learn more about the organization, volunteer, or donate.

Welp, Jenny and the boys from Fernwood pulled it off. Led by coach Karl and league veteran Khalil, the season wasnt always picturesque and it had its ups and downs with Fernwood coming out of the gates 2-0 before settling with a 3-4 regular season record. But all that’s a footnote as once the trophy gets its latest engraving commemorating this season, Fernwood is where it will reside until the final tip off of next season.

The spring 2025 season was all about parity, which made it so the balls could break any number of ways. But when you get hot when it counts, seedings and brackets be damned, you take that trophy before anyone else gets their hands on it.

In the semis, Our Brother’s Place put up a dogfight led by Ray, Thomas, and Lou but with some new players rounding out their 5, Fernwood’s youth and ability to score from any position helped them distance themselves in the second half.

On the other side of the bracket, outleys pressure from its athletic guards and gadget Boris Diaw player in Daniel were not quite enough for a Center For Hope team that could match their athleticism and had a slight edge on the boards.

In the championship, CFH’s ying yang guards in the blistering tornado Jamel and stoically composed do it all Tahir put up a valiant fight but the 3s just didn’t fall like they did in the semis. League MVP Keon had 16 and 14 but Kyries 28 and 8 was just too much. Jenny, never the one to be intimidated or back down, came up with two huge momentum shifting offensive rebounds.

Simply put, it was Fernwood’s season this year. They made em when it counts and we tip our cap to a team that never quit even in the face of adversity. That’s something the league’s shortest but fiercest player Jenny knows something about. Odds are just numbers, to win first thing you gotta do is show up and let the jersey across from you know you’re not backing down without a fight.

Before announcing the champions of the 2025 Spring Hoops 4 Hope season, we want to give a huge shout out to our friends at who came through and surprised us by donating a feast worth of sandwiches and chips! That’s some real brotherly love right there.

Tell them Hoops 4 Hope sent you. Depending who’s working, they may not know what you mean, but we just think it’d be cool if you said that.
