St. Peter's Food Cupboard

St. Peter's Food Cupboard In operation from 1987 and continuing today, St. Peter's Food Cupboard runs a choice cupboard for those in need of supplemental groceries. Peter's Food Cupboard.

Arising from the need in our city, St. Peter's Food Cupboard has been in operation since 1987. Our ministry began with a knock on the church doors from someone in search of food. This event sparked a question and the answer was the creation of St. Church members realized it was within their power, capacity and responsibility to help. St. Peter's Food Cupboard exists to serve our neighborhood and i

t became clear that operating a food cupboard would be one way to serve people in need in our area. In recent years the number of families we serve on a weekly basis has skyrocketed to an average of around 180 families. Every week we have the opportunity to directly impact our neighbors in need and volunteers always have the profound experience of being impacted in return. We believe that no one should go hungry and organize our efforts at St. Peter's Food Cupboard around making food available at no cost to our clients who come on Saturday mornings. While the food cupboard is only a supplemental food source for our clients it can be relied upon without fail week in and week out thanks to our volunteers, donors and everyone who pitches in to make a difference. Our volunteers know first hand the impact that the food cupboard has. This page is to connect volunteers, donors and clients to news and information about St.

Show the Food Cupboard some love this Valentine's Day! We have received many food donations, but what we need most right now is your time on Saturday mornings. In recent weeks, the Food Cupboard did not have enough volunteers to open the church leaving our guests to stand out in the cold while they waited to get their food. If you are free on Saturday morning, please consider joining us.

Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. If you cannot make the time that you signed up for, please cancel it as soon as possible so that we can find another volunteer. We have seen such an outpouring of support for St. Peter's Food Cupboard this season! A big thank you to Five Below for organizing a food drive. Yesterday they dropped off hundreds of food items that will be distributed to our neighbors in need this winter. Thank you to them and everyone who has volunteered or donated this winter!

Thank you to St. Peter's parishioner Tyler Willis, who organized a food drive at SavATree where he works as a staff arborist. The staff at SavATree - Tree Service & Lawn Care collected 1,300 cans and boxes of food across their local offices in Newtown, Princeton, Huntingdon Valley, and the Mainline! This food will be distributed to our clients at St. Peter's Food Cupboard during the winter months.

As the government shutdown continues, our neighbors who rely on federal food aid are now in crisis. The federal government has announced that it will release funds for only partial payment of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which means those who receive SNAP will likely only receive half of their usual benefits this month. Here at the St. Peter's Food Cupboard, we are already seeing an increased demand for the food we distribute every weekend. We handed out food to 139 people on a recent Saturday, a 65% increase in our usual numbers. The staff and volunteers at the St. Peter's Food Cupboard are working on ways to better handle the increased demand and make sure we have enough food on the shelves to feed all those who come to our doors. Visit our website to learn how to help: volunteer, donate food, or make a financial donation.
