SisTers PHL

SisTers PHL SisTersPHL was created as an expansion to bring these vital services to the trans communities in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

SisTersPHL is a Philadelphia-based extension of the established nonprofit SisTers PGH, an organization that has been advocating for and providing essential services to transgender and gender-nonconforming (TGNC) communities since 2013. SisTers PGH, founded and led by Black trans women, is rooted in Pittsburgh and is committed to supporting TGNC individuals, particularly Black and Brown trans women

, in the areas of housing, employment, leadership development, and healthcare . The organization stands as Pennsylvania’s only Black trans-woman directed 501(c)(3), dedicated to breaking down systemic barriers and building lasting support networks for TGNC individuals. Scheduled to officially launch in 2025, SisTersPHL will offer a comprehensive range of services aimed at addressing the immediate and long-term needs of the TGNC community. Key services will include:

• Emergency Shelter: Providing safe, affirming, and accessible emergency housing for trans individuals facing homelessness.
• Drop-In Hours: Offering a welcoming space where trans individuals can seek support, access resources, and build community.
• Rent and Utility Support: Helping individuals avoid eviction and maintain stable housing through direct financial assistance.
• Transportation Assistance: Ensuring that TGNC individuals have access to reliable transportation to reach employment, healthcare, and other necessary services.
• Food Pantry: Offering essential nutrition and groceries to those in need through an emergency food pantry. SisTersPHL is also proud to announce its partnership with World Healthcare Infrastructure and the Trans People of Color Coalition (TPAC), which has contributed $15,000 towards the startup efforts . This, along with additional funding from the Trans Resilience Fund and other sources, brings the total Startup Fund to $45,000, helping to ensure the success of this initiative in the coming years. SisTersPHL’s mission mirrors that of SisTers PGH: to create sustainable, affirming support systems for transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, with a specific focus on Black and Brown trans people. With plans to expand services over time, SisTersPHL is committed to fostering resilience and self-sufficiency in Philadelphia’s TGNC community, working to break the cycle of dependence on the nonprofit industrial complex by empowering individuals with the tools they need to thrive.
