Congratulations Layla!
When David Nelson Jr. passed away suddenly in 2006, his family honored his compassion with organ donation. That decision saved five lives. In his honor, the David Nelson Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to children of deceased organ and tissue donors, giving out over $40,000.
Laylah Cooper is one of the dozens who have received the scholarship since 2009 and graduated from Temple University this spring with her Bachelor of Science in Health Professions. Laylah plans to get her Masters in a Physician Assistant Studies Program next year and says, “The Gift of Life has played a major role in my education thus far, and I am forever grateful.”
Laylah is pictured with her father Andre holding a portrait of her late mother Chanelle Jones-Cooper.
Stay tuned. The 2025 scholarship winners will be announced soon!
