#RCFF19 8th Annual Rough Cut Film Fest- A Truly International Showcase

#RCFF19 By the Numbers: 300 Films Submitted 60 Official Selections 50 Film Programs 25 Nations represented 37 Films Nominated for awards 27 Awards Presented at The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts 4 Scholarships awarded 6 Apprenticeships awarded 5 Internships awarded What started out as a showcase of the compelling work our own high school students were producing at Science Leadership Academy (Philadelphia, PA) has turned into a full-blown international festival promoting amazing films being produced by the next generation of young filmmakers (25 and under) from around the world! Each year Rough Cut, a nonprofit with the Culture Trust of Greater Philadelphia and a member of the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, expands our community to celebrate and promote the very best films produced by young filmmakers on the high school and university level as well those by young independent filmmakers.

ROUGH CUT FILM FESTIVAL: Our Festival Week (June 12-17) included filmmaking workshops, special live performance-driven film events, an Oscars-style Awards Gala at the Kimmel Center in downtown Philadelphia and of course film screenings up on the big screen and a series of social events at the legendary Fergie’s Pub in Center City Philadelphia. But once Fest Week ends we kick into a year-long campaign to promote these films through partnerships with The Four Rivers Films Festival, Croatia; Youth Cinema Network, EU; The All-American High School Film Festival, NY; Philly Film Society's 27th Annual Filmadelphia Festival; Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. Rough Cut pushes hard to expose new audiences to these stunning films to prove that great things happen when we trust young creators.

ROUGH CUT ON LOCATION: We also produce our own original content both in Philadelphia and abroad through our Rough Cut On Location project. In 2017 we brought 4 filmmakers to Bosnia i Hercegovina to produce “The Grey Area”, which premiered at the Mediteran Film Festival two short weeks later. Last year we brought 10 students to Kraljevica, Croatia for a new Rough Cut Original “Liburnija” that premiered in September at the Four Rivers Film Festival in Karlovac, Croatia. This year we’ll be on location in Lesvos, Greece to produce a shard-hitting and serious short-feature documentary “Even After Death” telling the collective story of those who die at sea trying to claim asylum in Greece. Season 2 of our cable television show #RoughCutPresents premieres Wed, July 10th and runs weekly in the Philadelphia region (Comcast 52, FiOS 20) Wednesdays at 9pm and again on Saturdays at 10am.
