🍀🐯 GOOD MORNING LEP & TIGER FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND PORT RICHMOND COMMUNITY!

As many of you already know, Cohox Field is STILL not open.

For over a month, we have repeatedly reached out to the appropriate personnel through emails looking for answers and a resolution. Unfortunately, many of our concerns have gone unanswered, and we are still without our home field.

Mike and I would now like to organize a community gathering to bring attention to what is happening at Cohox and demand answers.

For the last several months, police have reportedly been coming to Cohox around 6 PM to clear the park and lock it up. When the Port Richmond Leprechauns and Port Richmond Tigers had regular access to Cohox, this was never an ongoing issue.

We believe our presence made a difference. Our coaches, parents, volunteers, and families were there regularly. Children were playing sports. Adults were supervising. The community respected our programs and our presence.

We do not want to watch Cohox become a nuisance park.

WE WANT OUR HOME BACK.

We want to regain a positive presence at Cohox and make it a place where our children can play, practice, and gather while being properly supervised and supported by their community.

At this point, we are demanding an IN-PERSON MEETING with the appropriate city and state officials and Parks & Recreation personnel. Emails have not gotten this resolved. We need everyone at the same table so we can get direct answers about why Cohox remains closed, what still needs to be completed, and WHEN our organizations will be allowed back onto our field.

We are asking our Lep families, Tiger families, alumni, neighbors, supporters, and the entire Port Richmond community to stand with us and make your voices heard. Please contact:

🚨 PORT RICHMOND DESERVES ANSWERS ABOUT COHOX 🚨

We are sharing these emails because our community deserves to know what has been happening with Cohocksink Recreation Center’s athletic field and why two longstanding Port Richmond youth organizations — the Port Richmond Leprechauns and Port Richmond Tigers — are still without their home field.

The original notice from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation stated that the athletic fields would close for upgrades and were expected to be READY FOR PLAY FOR SPRING 2025.

It is now September 2026.

We recently received an update stating that Parks & Recreation is still determining the condition of the field and that additional soil testing is being conducted to determine whether a fungus is causing problems. We were told those results are not yet available.

Then we received an email from Community Ventures stating that their work was COMPLETED IN APRIL 2026, the fields were turned over to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and both Community Ventures and its contractor recommended that the fields be opened to the community at that time.

Community Ventures also stated that they have not heard from PPR, Rebuild, or the Capital Program Office since April 2026 regarding any concerns or issues with the fields and had assumed the fields were already open.

So we have a very simple question:

WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN APRIL AND SEPTEMBER?

If the field was completed, turned over to PPR, and recommended for opening in April, why wasn’t it opened?

When was this possible fungus discovered? Who ordered the testing? What exactly is being tested? Where are the results? Why wasn’t Community Ventures notified if there was a problem?

And most importantly:

WHEN WILL OUR CHILDREN GET THEIR HOME FIELD BACK?

The Port Richmond Leprechauns have served this community since 1961, and the Port Richmond Tigers are another longstanding youth organization that calls Cohox home. Both organizations have been displaced while this project has continued.

For the Leprechauns, the situation became so difficult that we had to pause our football program this season because we could not secure an adequate field in our community.

The Tigers have also been forced away from their home field and are currently operating out of Heitzman Recreation Center, rather than the field their program and families call home.

This isn’t just about grass.

This is about TWO community youth organizations being displaced.

It’s about children losing their home field.

It’s about programs losing registrations, fundraising opportunities and revenue needed to survive.

It’s about families having to travel elsewhere just so their children can practice and play.

And it’s about organizations that have served generations of Port Richmond families being left without clear answers.

We have been patient. We have emailed. We have followed up. We have contacted multiple departments and officials.

ENOUGH WITH THE PASSING OF THE BUCK.

The Port Richmond Leprechauns AND Port Richmond Tigers deserve answers.

Our families deserve answers.

PORT RICHMOND DESERVES ANSWERS.

We want the testing results.
We want accountability.
We want a clear explanation of what happened.
And we want a REAL timeline for reopening our field.

OPEN COHOX — OR TELL PORT RICHMOND EXACTLY WHY YOU CAN’T.

Our kids have waited long enough.

Well not the answer we were hoping for but the good news is with all this emailing the Port Richmond Tigers Sport Association will have a suitable field at heitzman to play fall ball.

🚨 3 YEARS IS LONG ENOUGH. OUR KIDS DESERVE ANSWERS. 🚨

For THREE YEARS, the Port Richmond Leprechauns have been displaced from our home field at Cohocksink Recreation Center.

The damage to our program has been devastating.

In 2025, our parents and coaches were literally parking their cars beside a field and using their HEADLIGHTS so our kids could finish practice.

Now we’ve reached the point where we had to PAUSE OUR FOOTBALL PROGRAM. 💔

No home field means no home games.
No Homecoming.
Lost registration.
Lost fundraising.
Lost revenue needed to keep our clubhouse and programs running.

The Port Richmond Leprechauns have served this community since 1961, and we are now fighting to make sure our football program doesn’t disappear.

We understand construction takes time.

But after 3 YEARS, we deserve direct answers.

📢 WHEN WILL COHOCKSINK REOPEN?
📢 WHEN CAN OUR KIDS RETURN HOME?
📢 IF IT’S NOT SOON, WHERE IS THE SAFE, LIGHTED FIELD FOR THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN DISPLACED?

We’re not asking for special treatment.

WE’RE ASKING FOR A FAIR CHANCE TO KEEP OUR PROGRAM ALIVE.

Our kids deserve better than practicing by car headlights.

Our community deserves answers.
