The Merchants Fund is a Philadelphia charity established in 1854 to provide charitable gifts to business persons facing financial hardship. It evolved from the Mercantile Beneficial Association, an organization dedicated to providing business advice, networking opportunities, and protection from financial failure or default due to illness, old age, or disability at a time in our nation’s history when there was no health or disability insurance, or pension plans. The Merchants Fund has succeeded for over 150 years by keeping the goals and objectives of its early founders in a constantly changing social and economic environment. We do not claim to own any images on our page, Instagram, their affiliates, or other social media platforms, we are here to support our grantees and give credit where credit is due. Neighborhood food retailers! As part of the One Philly (SNAP) Support Plan, the Department of Commerce and The Merchants Fund, along with our partners at Barra Foundation and the Vanguard Foundation, are offering grants of up to $10,000 per business to small grocers, corner stores, and bodegas that can demonstrate revenue loss during the fall 2025 SNAP interruption.

Applications are open until December 31, 2025.
