ZETA OMICRON LAMBDA AT ERC94
The brothers of Zeta Omicron Lambda made the trip down to Atlantic City, NJ for the 94th Eastern Regional Conference hosted by and the local New Jersey chapters.

The theme, “Fraternity Forward: The Era of Value Impact and Progress,” included Impact sessions on financial planning, AI literacy, and programs for our undergraduate and veteran brothers.

In addition to the general business sessions, our State of the Fraternity given by our General President, the Public Program, “State of the Black Agenda” included a meaningful discussion on the black vote this election season and beyond led by Brother Ras Baraka (Mayor of Newark, NJ, Brother Marc Morial (CEO of the National Urban League) and included Activist Tamika Mallory, and surprise guest Brother Wes Moore (Governor of Maryland).

A special thank you to our Chapter Delegates and brothers who attended and participated in the business and made some time for fellowship in between.

🗣️ CALLING ALL BROTHERS 🤙🏽

Join the brothers of Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter for the seventh meeting of the fraternal year.

Because a number of brothers will be attending the Eastern Regional Conference in Atlantic City we have moved the meeting up a week from our customary standing date to ensure brothers attending can discuss the conference plans.

In addition to ERC discussion, this is an extremely pivotal meeting as we speed toward our 70th Anniversary Gala in June (tickets on sale now), finalize upcoming programs and plan for the upcoming fraternal year.

The brothers of the Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter were proud to host a very special Alpha Reads session today, led by our good friend Jaylene Owens, an actress, poet and author of “A Black Girl and Her Braids.”

The program took place at one of our partner schools, Add B. Anderson Elementary School, and a highlight was the book signing Jaylene held after reading with a bright and dynamic group of third-grade students.

ZOL’s Alpha Reads program is an extension of our Education Committee’s work and aligns with the fraternity’s national “Go to High School, Go to College” program.

If it’s been a while since we’ve held a Phirst Phriday event, so we might as well do one in the in the true spirit of brotherhood…

The brothers of and will hold our first monthly fellowship event of 2026 together and cleverly call it…“Phirst Phriday: Joint Phellowship Edition.”

FORGING PARTNERSHIPS EARLY ON

From the very beginning, Zeta Omicron Lambda understood that progress doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens through partnership.

In April 1959, only three years into its existence, Zeta Omicron Lambda became an organizational member of the Urban League of Philadelphia. Just two months later, in June 1959, ZOL took another decisive step, becoming a Life Member of the NAACP. These weren’t symbolic affiliations. They were intentional commitments that helped shape the chapter’s long-term focus on civil rights, community advocacy, and collective action.

Those early decisions didn’t just guide the chapter then—they continue to inform how ZOL shows up today.

We thank those brothers from our chapter’s inception in the 1950s for setting a course rooted in service, courage, and accountability; we still hold those values nearly 70 years later.

ZOΛ HISTORY IS BLACK HISTORY

On April 26, 1956, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. chartered its first graduate chapter in Philadelphia—Zeta Omicron Lambda (Key #247). This wasn’t just an expansion; it was intentional. The chapter was founded with a clear mission: reclamation—calling brothers back into active service and strengthening Alpha’s footprint in the city.

The charter was formally presented by 18th General President Frank L. Stanley Jr. during a ceremony at the Old Bookbinders Restaurant, held in conjunction with Alpha’s 50th Anniversary. A milestone moment—locally and nationally.

Αs we approach a landmark 70 years of service as a chapter, we reflect on what our legacy looks like- strategy, leadership, and commitment to sustaining Black institutions over time.
