Tamia Potter has made history as Vanderbilt University’s first Black woman neurosurgery resident in nearly a century. 👏🏾 A proud Florida A&M University alumna and soon-to-be Case Western Reserve graduate, Tamia’s journey is one of brilliance, perseverance, and purpose. In a field where only 33 Black women currently practice nationwide, her achievement is not just personal — it’s historic. Her story reminds us that no dream is too ambitious when fueled by dedication and belief. The future of medicine is brighter because of pioneers like her. 💪🏾🩺

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is poised to become the second Historically Black College or University in the nation to establish a veterinary school. The state of Maryland has recently approved UMES's veterinary medicine program, making it the second HBCU alongside Tuskegee University, which founded its TU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1945. UMES will join a select group of around three dozen institutions nationwide with a vet school, thus expanding opportunities for aspiring Black veterinarians.
