The Murals of the Mind Project

The Murals of the Mind Project Our mission is to empower and transform the lives of young people through Youth Development that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

We envision a world where all young people are inspired and equipped to embrace their majesty. The Murals of the Mind Project (M.O.M.) is a nonprofit organization that provides free and low cost programming to kids and teens ages 7-17 and college age youth. M.O.M. exists to awaken the imagination and curiosity of youth, tangibly helping them improve life outcomes. Our mission is to increase youth

literacy IQ. This is accomplished by taking a full circle approach to literacy, life skills, college prep, workforce development, mentoring, and community outreach. Through our Literacy 360 Workshops Program, M.O.M. helps youth get ready for 21st century opportunities. We encourage young people to custom design their narratives, expand peer networks, embrace their majesty; celebrate and accept their uniqueness – quirks and all.

Today marked the final day of our Growing to Be Workshop at Hancock Middle School! 🎓✨

Over the course of this program, students explored college and career pathways, built confidence in their future goals, and gained valuable tools to help them succeed both in and out of the classroom.

A huge thank you to the students, staff, and partners who helped make this experience meaningful and impactful. We are excited to see what these young leaders accomplish next!

Week 3 @ Hancock Middle

Today’s main activity focused on participants creating a job description for their dream career based on the question: “If you could get paid to do anything, what would it be?”

The purpose of the exercise was to help participants:

* Build career awareness + self-identity
* Reinforces literacy and structured thinking
* Begin to align SEL skills with workforce readiness

For the exercise, each individual was tasked to include the following 5 things in their description:

1. Job Title: What is the name of your dream job?
2. What You Do (Responsibilities): Participants had to list at least 3 things they would do daily.
3. Skills Needed: What do you have to be good at?
4. Education or Training: What might you need to learn?
5. Why It’s Your Dream Job: Participants were encouraged to write 1-3 sentences describing a personal connection to the occupation. #
