🎓 Why College?

For student scholar, Timothy Warton, the HBCU experience is about more than earning a degree, it’s about finding community, representation, and connection.

“It just shows you the variety of our kind that there is and allows you to meet so many different people.”

That’s part of what makes the HBCU experience special: a community where students can learn, grow, build connections, and experience the diversity of Black excellence.

🎓✨ From Mrs. Juneteenth Pennsylvania 2026 to a future Bison!

We’re flashing back to our conversation with Cameryn Knight- Branch at UNCF Philadelphia’s 12th Annual Women of Faith for Education Afternoon Tea.

Cameryn is headed to Howard University to study Communications, where she plans to continue using her voice and passion for advocacy to make sure Black girls are heard, seen, and valued. 🦬❤️💙

And guess what? Philly Goes 2 College has been part of her journey! 🙌 “I’ve been taking your tips…and really using them for my next journey to go to Howard.”

🔥📚 Celebrating the power of telling our own stories.

At UNCF Delaware Valley Women of Faith for Education Afternoon Tea, Keeper of the Flame Awardee Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow shared how her work as a children’s book author allows her to tell stories about Black Muslim children in Philadelphia and spread the stories of her community far and wide.

And for the next generation of artists, her advice is one to remember:
🔥 Be brave.
🎨 Learn your craft.
🤝 Find your creative community.
🚀 Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Your story matters and you never know how far it can reach.

🎓 Talk Major: Criminal Justice + Human Services

For student Tamar Cotton, choosing a major is all about giving back.

Tamar is double majoring in Criminal Justice and Human Services, with double minors in Psychology and Sociology. Inspired by the social workers and educators in her life, she wants to follow their example of serving others while creating a path that’s uniquely her own.

Her journey is a reminder that you can learn from the people who inspire you and still move to the beat of your own drum. 🥁

The mission is bigger than helping students enroll. It’s about making sure they have the support and resources they need to get to college, through college, and beyond.
