On October 7, 2023, our world shattered. Today, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia remembers every innocent life stolen, every family broken and every soul whose absence still echoes through our hearts. We carry their memory with us, as we stand side by side with our brothers and sisters in Israel and those who continue to bear unimaginable grief with quiet strength and incredible bravery.

Am Yisrael Chai.

As we mark the third anniversary of October 7, we remember the nearly 1,200 people murdered in Israel, the hundreds taken hostage, and the families who continue to live with unimaginable loss.

We are deeply troubled that a coalition of organizations plans to gather in Rittenhouse Square on October 7 to celebrate the Hamas attacks. Whatever one's views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, glorifying the murder and kidnapping of civilians is indefensible. An event that praises the perpetrators of October 7 crosses a moral line and should be condemned.

Last week, Jason Holtzman, chief of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s JCRC, testified at a Pennsylvania Senate hearing on combating antisemitism. Joined by Andrew Goretsky of ADL Philadelphia and David Knoll of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Holtzman shared crucial insights with lawmakers.

The hearing, organized in partnership with the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition, brought key voices together to address the rise of antisemitism across the state.

This is just one of the ways our Center to Combat Antisemitism builds strong partnerships and engages policymakers across the Commonwealth.

Nothing says fall quite like gathering with your loved ones in the sukkah. 🍂

Sukkot is a season of joy and open doors. In Jewish tradition, we embrace hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests) and open our homes to family, friends and neighbors. Whether you're building a graham cracker sukkah or waving the etrog and lulav, we're wishing you Chag Sukkot Sameach!

For nearly three years, Jewish families in the School District of Philadelphia raised serious concerns about what their children experienced in and outside of a Philadelphia teacher's classroom. The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia brought those concerns directly to District leadership numerous times. They were never adequately resolved.

This week, the teacher publicly acknowledged that claims she made for years about being Palestinian, Tunisian and Black were false.

Jewish Federation has now asked the District leadership what action it will take, what support it will provide to affected students, and how it will ensure its obligations to Jewish students are met.
