Philadelphia Youth Organization

Philadelphia Youth Organization Since the organization’s creation, PYO programs have been filling a void for disadvantaged youth in the City of Philadelphia.

Founded in 1989, the Philadelphia Youth Organization is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit based at the Marian Anderson Recreation Center at 17th and Fitzwater Streets. PYO programs include instructional baseball and soccer leagues; high-level travel baseball and soccer teams; and programs for prospective college students. The primary goal of the Philadelphia Youth Organization is to convey the

importance and benefits of education to our participants. Coaches are required to monitor the academic performance of their players, and our leagues all feature an educational component. We have been successful at identifying academically gifted children in our program and helping them gain admission into high-quality area schools. We have also helped students navigate the college selection process, and several program graduates have earned athletic and academic scholarship at well-regarded colleges and universities. We are proud of the work we do and feel that it benefits not just the youth and families we serve, but the community as a whole. By providing quality recreation options we give children alternatives to the streets. By providing guidance and mentoring we empower children to make smart, healthy decisions. By providing academic support and college prep work, we help ensure that our participants are equipped to make a positive impact on others. All of this means a healthier, more livable community for everyone.
