*Note: If you paid for the tour, symposium and/or reception previously, refunds of $10 will be issued to those who registered for the tour and $20 refunds will be issued to those who registered for the in-person option.

Due to the recent snowstorm, and with the potential for additional inclement weather at the time of the scheduled event, we are concerned that travel conditions may make access to the meeting site difficult for some attendees. We want to ensure that everyone can participate safely and without the added stress of navigating potentially hazardous conditions.

For that reason, we have decided to move the Brutalism Symposium to a virtual format. This will allow us to proceed as planned while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all participants*. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

This virtual lecture explores the life and work of Elizabeth R. Hirsh Fleisher, Philadelphia’s first registered woman architect, whose career spanned the early decades of the 20th century and whose contributions have long been underrecognized in architectural history.

Presented by Amy Lambert and co-presented with Docomomo PHL, the program examines Fleisher’s modernist design work, professional practice, and collaborative approach to architecture. Through archival research and built examples, the lecture situates Fleisher’s work within broader conversations about authorship, labor, and gender in architectural practice.

The program concludes with a moderated Q&A led by Jean McCoubrey, AIA, architect and Conservancy board member.

Recap of House Tour: A Study of a Stunning Stonorov on February 15, 2026, a pioneer modernist transformation of an 1800s farmhouse. This home in Phoenixville, PA, is a seamless marriage of landscape and form, with clean lines, expansive views, and mid-century design details that feel just as current today as they did 70 years ago.

Thanks to Realtor Marion Dinofa and Docomomo Board Member, and to Alec Kearns, listing agent, for hosting us. Thank you to Bill Whitaker, Director and Curator of the Architecture Archives, University of Pennsylvania, for his insight on Oscar Stonorov, a nationally recognized architect and urban planner who collaborated with Louis Kahn and wrote extensively about socially responsible design.

We’re grateful to everyone for coming to events. Special thanks to Docomomo PHL Board Members, Dan Macey, Marion Dinofa, Dan Vieyra, David Rosenwasser, and Claudette McCarron.
