NRHS Railcamp

NRHS Railcamp The official page for RailCamp, a summer orientation program sponsored by the National Railway Historical Society for high school students.

Operated by the National Railway Historical Society, RailCamp is an annual program that gives hands-on railroading experience to high school boys and girls. Since 1998 nearly 500 campers have toured rail facilities, assisted with operations, and learned about railroad history and preservation techniques.

RailCamp has lost a great leader who presided over our program for many years. He will be sorely missed.

A bit of history as RailCamp kicks off!

From 1998-2012, Steamtown, in a partnership with the National Railway Historical Society, hosted a week long RailCamp for teenage boys and girls. RailCamp continues to this day, but is now based in Newark DE, and today begins a week with Amtrak, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, and the Strasburg Railroad. RailCamp East concluded today, with all 24 campers heading home with smiles on their faces and plenty of stories to tell after an incredible week. From all the Railcamp administration and counselor staff, we thank you for coming to Delaware to experience a side of a railroading that many people your age never get to see, and we hope that these experiences and memories will lead you closer to a career in the railroading field.

RailCamp Northwest begins in just two weeks in Tacoma, Washington, and a whole new week of experiences and memories will begin!
