🎉 Congratulations to ISSNAF member Riccardo Gottardi, PhD, on his recent promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of Pennsylvania!

Dr. Gottardi leads a bioengineering and biomaterials research lab dedicated to developing innovative treatments for children with ear, nose, and throat disorders through tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and advanced drug delivery.

His lab recently celebrated two important research milestones: work on tracheal reconstruction was published in Nature Communications, while research on an innovative approach to eardrum repair was featured on the cover of Advanced Healthcare Materials.
Beyond his scientific work, Riccardo serves as an ISSNAF Chapter Board Member, contributing his leadership and expertise to organizing events, strengthening the local ISSNAF community, and actively participating in ISSNAF’s mentoring program.

Happy 250th 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲! 🇺🇸🇮🇹

As the United States celebrates a historic milestone (250 years of liberty and independence), we recognize the powerful transatlantic connection that helped shape the nation’s foundational ideals.

Did you know that the phrase “All men are created equal”—a cornerstone of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and later echoed in the Constitution—has roots in the ideas of an Italian intellectual?

🇮🇹 Filippo Mazzei, a physician, writer, and diplomat from Tuscany, was a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. His writings inspired Jefferson’s revolutionary thinking on equality and natural rights principles that became foundational to the United States.

As we mark this Semiquincentennial, Mazzei’s legacy reminds us that the American experiment in democracy was shaped not only by its own founders, but also by global exchanges of ideas - a foundation where Italian thought played a defining role.

At ISSNAF PND, we celebrate this shared heritage and the enduring impact of Italian contributions to science, culture, and civic thought.

The ISSNAF Philadelphia Chapter and PI Philly had the distinct honor of attending a reception hosted by Consul General Nico Frandi to warmly welcome the Italian Ambassador to the US, Marco Peronaci.

It was a fantastic evening connecting with leadership, celebrating the best of our local scientific, cultural, and professional communities, and showcasing the incredible impact of the Italian community right here in Philly.

Thank you to the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia Cons. Gen. d'Italia Filadelfia for hosting such an inspiring event!
