Sharing from a Fellow Smithie: Ann Ruhr Pifer (Smith'87, Jordan, Geneva, Equestrian Team) is the Executive Director of AdoptAClassroom.org, a national nonprofit that supports teachers. She will host an event in central Philadelphia on May 27 that local Smith alumni may be interested in.

The event is free and will be an informal panel discussion with education leaders in Philadelphia that will focus on some of the toughest challenges facing our teachers and schools today.

Some of the questions we will address include:

What do the cuts to the Department of Education at the federal level really mean for teachers and students right here in Philadelphia?

What groups will be most affected by the current and proposed cuts to funding?

Why is the new Pennsylvania science curriculum, "STEELE" a big deal for teachers?

What can I do to support teachers and education in my community now, and what can I do to advance quality education for all Philadelphia students over the longer term?

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a cozy and fun gathering of fellow Smithies? Hosted by Liz Borland '97, we invite you to a Winter Holiday Game Night on Sunday, December 10, from 3 to 6 p.m..

We've planned an afternoon filled with board games, snacks, mocktails and cocktails. Whether you're a seasoned board game enthusiast or a newbie looking to learn some new games, this event promises to be a great opportunity to connect, relax, and have some fun.

Bring a snack and/or your favorite board games to share or enjoy the ones we'll have available. And if the weather permits, we'll wrap up the evening in style with a firepit and steaming hot cocoa outside.

So mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable winter holiday gathering. We can't wait to see you there! Please RSVP by December 6 by sending an email to [email protected] to ensure we have enough games and goodies for everyone. Friends/families welcome!
