Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild

Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild is a local organization that promotes urban beekeeping and raises awareness of the importance of bees to our environment.

The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild has grown from what began in 2009 as a small, informal group of local beekeepers. Because of the swift growth of our membership, The Guild quickly established itself as a not for profit organization, and meetings are now held regularly on the third Thursday of each month. On facebook, we also have a Philadelphia Bee Keepers group, where many of our active members

and others share questions and ideas.

At the Guild’s first apiary session for our 2026 Intro to Urban Beekeeping, at the Guild’s apiary at Awbury Arboretum and at Anna Bee's Honey (shown) in South Philly, we had about 15 aspiring beekeepers/bee enthusiasts from 9-12 pm this past Saturday. The day started off a bit cool and windy - not ideal for beekeeping - but it warmed up and we were able to dig into the hives and take a look at some decidedly less than optimal colonies and then a thriving colony. We also did mite counts and applied some Formic since the weather was just right for that. A lot to learn in three hours. We’re looking forward to the next apiary session in June. Interested in learning with us? Stay tuned for future classes - this one was sold out.
