A true blast 🚀 from the past! Rebel Ventures has grown over the years from humble beginnings at Sam Pepper Middle School to creating an amazing breakfast option for students across the Philadelphia public school region to now working on something new with Whitsons Culinary Group.

Let’s take a look back at what the Rebel Crew was doing 10 years ago!

Last semester, freshman undergraduates at the Wharton School of Business had the opportunity to collaborate with Rebel Ventures on an innovation challenge, pitching ideas on how to promote the nonprofit to a larger audience and become more effective in advancing our mission. Over the course of 12 weeks, students worked collaboratively, brainstorming and testing different ideas, which were ultimately presented to a panel of judges from Rebel Ventures.

The RV Crew is back in the kitchen again with another meal! This time we made a delicious teriyaki chicken bowl. The students rated it a 10/10.

A big goal of the Rebel Ventures program is to help students create meals that they truly like.

If you wanna recreate this fabulous meal at your house here’s the recipe:

- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cubed
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 Tbsp. packed light brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. rice vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 2 tsp. minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 3 tsp. cornstarch
- 3 cups of broccoli +
rice for serving

Rebel Ventures has gotten into the kitchen with some of our newly hired students and created a tasty alfredo dish from scratch! 🍝 🧀

The students were surprised to learn how easy it is to make something from scratch and be just as tasty as the canned stuff. The team had a blast getting to know each other more and working on our communication skills.

Over the past several weeks Rebel ventures students have worked with the Science History Institute to create a new museum activity for the “What is Rebel?” exhibition. The students with the museum were able to create a scavenger hunt which takes you not only through the Rebel exhibition but the Lunch Time exhibition as well!

We hope to take some time to try it out! As well as send us any pictures of you doing the scavenger hunt.

Last week, the Rebel Ventures crew had the honor of being a part of a presentation for Drexel’s Summer Food Science, Urban Agriculture, and Nutrition or F.U.N. program at the Science History Institute. F.U.N. program is a paid professional development opportunity for high school teachers and counselors to gain knowledge, exposure, and confidence, promoting careers in food science, culinary arts, urban agriculture, and nutrition to Philadelphia youth.

This presentation was a great opportunity to explain what Rebel Ventures does and its connection to the urban nutrition initiative. As well as showing our summer students the kind of activities and community engagement Rebel Ventures participates in.

We truly had a great time being part of this event!

As some may know, Rebel Ventures had previously helped in the curation and launch of the “Lunchtime” exhibition at the Science History Institute. Now, after almost a year and a half of collaboration, Rebel Ventures is happy to announce that we are in the newest ExhibitLab display at the Science History Institute! Our mentor, Dayanna Shomo, had the pleasure of being there when the cases went up—and was a leader throughout the development process.

The Exhibitlab at the museum is a space for small, focused displays that showcase specific collections, prototype new ideas, and respond to current events. Here, the history, mission, and accomplishments of Rebel Ventures are on display—spreading our
message of healthy deliciousness to new spaces.

Last Friday was so much fun! The Rebel crew had a great time at the "Lunchtime" exhibition opening at the Science History Institute. Talking to everyone who came up to us. We were even had more fun walking around the exhibition and seeing our name in "Lunchtime"!
