As we recognize Hunger Action Month and National Food Bank Week, this Thankful Thursday we're especially grateful for the volunteers who give their time to help food reach neighbors throughout our community.

They prepare meals, pack boxes, sort donations and make deliveries. Their impact doesn't just focus on meals – they offer a friendly face and a few extra minutes with a neighbor….this means so much.

Food and Friendship is what Caring for Friends is all about. We are thankful for our volunteers who help us reach more seniors, veterans, children and families facing hunger while reminding our neighbors that someone cares.

This Hunger Action Month, help our volunteers reach more neighbors in need. Please consider a small donation: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/hungerawarenessmonth/

Warehouse Wednesday! Before food reaches a neighbor's table, a lot happens behind the scenes.

Food is rescued, sorted, packed, prepped for meals, and distributed to our clients every day - the Caring for Friends warehouse team is at the heart of this work.

What moves through our warehouse is more than food items to the team. They are meals for a homebound senior, groceries for a family, fresh food for a community partner. Every day, warehouse work is a reminder to our neighbors that someone cares.

Corporate partners help make those moments possible with large food donations so we can create great meals and reach more people throughout Greater Philadelphia.

For Corporate partnership or Foundation inquiries, please email Rosemarie ([email protected]). Food Donors, reach Pam Ozborn ([email protected])

September is Hunger Action Month, and we are reminded of Caring for Friends’ Guiding Principle for Philadelphia: no one should be hungry or alone in a world of caring people.

This month, we continue our work to turn awareness into action and show so many of you what can happen when a community comes together for its neighbors.

There is a place for you in the fight against local hunger and isolation. Donate, volunteer, get involved or simply share our mission with others. However you choose to participate, you can help make Hunger Action Month matter.

Earlier this month, we lost someone very special to the Caring for Friends family, Dr. Michael A. Schiavone. As Rita’s partner and right-hand man, Mike helped bring her vision to life, building a mission centered on food, friendship, and caring for neighbors in need. The impact of what they created together continues to touch lives every day.

To everyone who has made a gift in Mike’s memory, continued your support, or shared your love with our Caring for Friends family, thank you.

Your generosity is a meaningful way to honor Mike and the legacy he and Rita built together. If you’d like to honor Mike’s memory, please consider making a gift to Caring for Friends and helping us carry their vision forward. ❤️

In our partnership with Caring for Friends we provided over 5,500 meals in 2025.

Twice a year we partner with the Caring for Friends organization to cook, assemble, and package meals for homebound, homeless, elderly. Often families or individuals who don’t have access to nutritious and warm meals.

We began this partnership many years ago and our volunteer group grows every year. Want to join in on the fun this year? Our next volunteer day will be on 4/4/26.

🌿 MORE HERBS. LESS SALT. MORE FLAVOR. HEART HEALTHY.
Today is More Herbs, Less Salt Day. Herbs are at their peak of flavor this time of year and great adds to a meal.

Many fresh herbs are affordable. There are also a few items from a spice rack to make a meal flavorful. Garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika and black pepper will give a meal plenty of flavor without relying on salt.

We put together a few easy, economical meal ideas for you that use herbs and spices. Save this for your next meal or share it with a friend! Better yet, consider grabbing some extra herbs and spices and getting to a neighbor in need!

A full table starts with you. ❤️

For many of us, deciding what to eat this weekend is simple. For too many of our neighbors, the bigger question is whether there will be enough food at all.

That’s why Caring for Friends works every day to get nutritious food where it’s needed most, reaching children, families, seniors, veterans and neighbors throughout our community.

This Food Friday, you can help put more food on more tables. Don’t just scroll past hunger. Help us do something about it.

It’s Thankful Thursday, and today we’re especially grateful for the people who make caring for our neighbors possible. ❤️

Day after day, our community steps up in big and small ways to make sure our neighbors know someone cares. To our volunteers, donors, partners and friends, thank you for showing up for our community. Your kindness helps put food and other necessities on the table, and reminds our neighbors that they are not alone.

There’s still so much more we can do together. Turn your gratitude into action this Thursday. Make a gift and help us reach the next neighbor who needs us.

Today, on Women’s Equality Day, we recognize a milestone that gave millions of women a greater voice in shaping the future - the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

At Caring for Friends, we’re also reminded of what can happen when women use their voices, compassion and determination to make a difference in their communities. More than 50 years ago, our founder, Rita Ungaro, saw a neighbor who needed help and chose to act. One meal for one neighbor grew into a mission that she created for many neighbors. Rita’s legacy and mission continues to bring food and friendship to people throughout Greater Philadelphia today.

Rita’s story reminds us that change often begins with someone willing to stand up, speak up and take action.

Today, use your voice for something that matters. Share our mission, volunteer, donate, or encourage someone else to get involved. www.caringforfriends.org
