Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys Philadelphia Trolleys Donations to FPT are tax deductible. FPT plans to further its goals through membership fees, donations and by sponsoring special events.

The Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys (FPT) members are interested in Philadelphia’s history and the role that electric trolleys played in the City’s development. We are also interested preserving the historic trolleys which ran in the Philadelphia area (PTC, SEPTA and Red Arrow)

FPT is a non-profit Pennsylvania corporation. Our charter states “FPT is a non-profit group that will foster the restoration, preservation, of historic trolley cars. Here is your chance to help maintain and preserve this unique resource. But it takes money! For starters, please send $35.00 for a one year’s membership to become one of the “Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys”. Tax deductible donations in any amount are also appreciated. You can make a difference by making a tax-deductible donation. Membership dues are due in April, please put you membership number on the check. New members will get their membership number when they sign up. Membership runs from July 1 to June 30

Not every streetcar at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is on currently on display; and today’s highlight is about one such car: Philadelphia Rapid Transit 2282.

This 1906 vintage semi-convertible streetcar was built for service on the streets and in the subway of Philadelphia. It was part of a fleet of 772 cars known as “The Philadelphia Standard Car”, and is one of the oldest known Philadelphia streetcars in existence!

2282 was sold in 1923 to the Shamokin & Edgewood Electric Railway Co. (to serve the anthracite coal communities in Northumberland County). It ran there until 1938, when it was sold again and converted to a dwelling in Elysburg, PA.

Since 1967, this car body has had multiple homes, including the Magee Transportation Museum, Philadelphia, and Dushore, PA. Most recently the car was stored indoors at the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton, before it was donated to our museum in 2024. It is now safely stored indoors by us until it can be restored to operational condition!

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is proud to present their version of "The Spirit of 1776" this Friday, June 26 at 2PM and celebrate America's 250th with their Anything on Wheels Event this weekend.

Anything on Wheels, June 27-28, is an annual event for car enthusiasts and history buffs, featuring trolley parades, a car show, and much more. Other large vehicles will make special appearances, including buses, construction equipment, delivery trucks, tractors, and more.

The weekend will feature trolley parades on Saturday, rides on restored antique
streetcars, as well as food trucks & entertainment. This event is open to the public at regular museum admission rates. Both days run from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
