Established to honor the memory of local civic leader and activist for children and youth, ATIYA VALERIE ABNEY (August 1974 - August 2005), AVA Foundation, Inc continues her legacy of Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. AVA, by "PROVIDING TOOLS TO OPTIMIZE POTENTIAL FOR SUCCESS", takes a vested interest in our most vulnerable and underserved citizens - GIRLS! We provide programs that offer creat

ive and engaging activities; encourages comradery; promotes and supports higher education; reduces female adolescent incarceration and recidivism; inspires confidence and resiliency; provides a safe and nurturing environment for EXPLORATION, TRANSFORMATION, and SELF-ACTUALIZATION to moderate and high-level at-risk females ages 11 to 17. AVA believes ALL girls have a right to enjoy a healthy and positive adolescent experience. Our Butterfly Effect Programs include:

- AVASF (Scholarship Fund for college-bound students and college students experiencing financial hardship)
- AVALI (Summer Leadership Institute for low to moderate at-risk middle-school aged girls ages)
- GIFT - Growing In Female Tradition (School and community-based program for high-school aged at-risk girls)
- "In My Daughter's Eyes" Annual Conference (A celebration of GIRLS and the achievements of our program participants)
- "Packing for Success" Annual Back-to-school Campaign (School supplies giveaway and day of activities for school-aged children and parents to promote excitement among returning students and encourage parent engagement in schools.
