2017 ESSAY CONTEST
"UNIONISM IN AMERICA"

WHO: Eligible applicants are spouses, dependents and grandchildren children of active and retired members of the GCC/IBT District Council 9.

To be eligible for a scholarship, the member must have been a member in continuous good standing for at least one year as of March 15th of the award year and the applicant must be a graduate of an accredited high school or vocational school within two calendar years preceding the award year or graduate within the award year. No applications will be accepted from a student who is currently enrolled in college, university or advanced educational facility. In any one year, only one student from a family will be eligible for a scholarship.

WHY: To encourage students to understand the vital contribution that Unions have made to the economic, social and political development of our nation.

WHEN: The deadline for submitting applications and essays is MARCH 31, 2017. No application or essay will be accepted after that date.

HOW: Write a 1500 word essay on the topic, "Unionism in America": Present day necessity of Unions and its impact on you and your family.

Submit your essay along with an official scholarship application, your SAT or ACT scores (PSAT/NMSQT acceptable) and high school transcript to GCC/IBT District Council 9.

Scholarships are awarded each year in the amount of $750 per academic year for a total of $3,000, not to exceed four (4) years.
