His brilliance in the music industry as conductor, composer, pianist, music educator, author, and humanitarian. His music will be with us forever! Happy Birthday to Lyricist Otto Harbach (8/18/1873). He was one of the most used lyricists in the early half of the 1900s and the mentor to Oscar Hammerstein II. He wrote both operetta (The Firefly, Katinka) and Broadway shows (The Desert Song, Rose-Marie, Roberta). A great song from Broadway!

On August 17, 1983 lyricist Ira Gershwin passed away in Beverly Hills. Although he didn't work in operetta per se, he was a true star of Classic Broadway. He worked, of course, with his brother George, but also with Kurt Weill, Jerome Kern, and Harold Arlen to name a few. His lyrics have become the gems of the great American Songbook, sung by so many greats. From COT's 2019 concert, here is 'My Ship' - music by Weill and words by Kurt Weill from 'Lady in the Dark'.
