Happy Birthday to Jim Longacre! We have been friends since undergraduate school in Philadelphia, and when Concert Operetta Theater was just beginning, Jim was asked to be the first lead tenor in our production of 'Gypsy Princess'! Apple Blossoms is one of the only operettas written by composer Fritz Kreisler and Victor Jakobi opened at the Globe Theater (now the Lund-Fontanne) on October 7, 1919, and ran until April 24, 1920. It's a wonderful piece with the story taking place on 5th Avenue and a girl's private school. COT performed it in 2013. Here's a beautiful ballad.

Happy birthday to Joe! He was in Philly for vocal training when we met. He and he wife (duet) performed in one operetta for COT in 2006. Since then he has gone on to some amazing administration positions in the arts, but we are so honored to have both of them perform with us!

Today marks the death of Jacques Offenbach in Paris France in 1880. One of the renowned operetta composers of the 19th century. He visited and performed in Philadelphia for the centennial in 1876, just a few years before his passing. His music is quite delicious, with a few pieces that everyone knows! COT was honored to do a concert of his work in 2019.

Franz Lehar's operetta 'Friederike' had its debut on October 4, 1928, at the Metropol Theater in Berlin. A true love story between Friederike and the poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe who she must give us so that he can become the world-renown poet of his time. From COT's 2008 concert production.

October is almost here... we welcome Fall, but we can't forget summer. Frederich von Flotow added this beautiful Irish melody to his 1844 opera 'Martha' with the poetry of Thomas Moore. It was one of the pieces COT performed in the 2013 Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy concert by Jessica Lennick.

On September 24, 1917, at the New Amsterdam Theater in NYC, Kalman's 'The Gypsy Princess' (Die Csárdásfürstin) hit the USA! An all-time favorite for COT, it was our first show in 2002! So many great pieces, it's hard to choose one, the Hungarian feel of the last trio is great - from our 2005 concert!
