“Over my time at SJU, I have participated in two medical brigades– Panama and Guatemala. My favorite part was talking to and playing with the kids during the clinic days. These opportunities allowed me to gain hands-on experience in different medical fields, some that I had never though of. I highly recommend any student, with any major, to go on a medical brigade because of the people you’ll meet and genuine experiences you’ll have.”

“My favorite memory was our first day of clinic! Being immediately greeted with welcoming smiles and excitement from the community was amazing. I also enjoyed the opportunity to practice my skills, as well as learning many new things from all the GMB doctors. In addition, I loved all the friends I met on this trip and I’m so grateful for everyone!”

“My time serving in Chimaltenango, Guatemala was one of the most impactful experiences of my life! While every part of the trip was meaningful, some of my favorite memories came from assisting in the dental unit, where I had the opportunity to learn from doctors and witness firsthand the difference compassionate healthcare can make in a person’s life. Beyond the clinical experience, it was the people of Chimaltenango who left the greatest impression on me...
Despite facing challenges and having access to far fewer resources than many of us are accustomed to, the people I met carried themselves with joy, kindness, and gratitude. I was especially touched by the children, their faces would light up over something as simple as receiving a sticker. Seeing so much excitement and appreciation for such a small gesture was a humbling reminder of how often we take things for granted. Their gratitude and resilience challenged my perspective and inspired me to be more intentional in my own life. I left Guatemala with a deeper appreciation for service, a renewed sense of gratitude, and lessons that will stay with me long after the trip ended 🩷”
