Did you know that the Discovery Center and its reservoir serve as a major migratory stopover location for more than 200 species of birds? As part of the Discovery Center’s Community Day and our second stop on the 2025 Bird Migration Celebration Tour, we’ll be hosting a conversation with Keith Russell, Audubon Mid-Atlantic’s program manager for urban conservation, to discuss the challenges these migrating birds face and how we’re ensuring safer journeys through bird collision prevention initiatives like Bird Safe Philly.

This Saturday, from 10-2, meet some of our adoptable cats & kittens! All cats are fully vetted and ready for their forever homes. Volunteers will be on site to help you apply to adopt these cuties and we will also have lots of info about Project MEOW and how you can help. Can’t wait to see you there! 😻

This past fall, Bria and Robin from
Audubon Mid-Atlantic were lucky enough to partner with
students from Community College of Philadelphia to plant over 120 native plants at the entrance to the main trail at The Discovery
Center.

Audubon Mid-Atlantic staff also lead bird walks, where
students identified species and gained content for their
journal entries.

Thank you so much to Professor Garrity-Benjamin and
the entire Honors EASC 111 class for their curiosity and
dedication.

This past October, we were lucky enough to welcome Overbrook Environmental Education Center's Thriving Communities Guided Tour. Lead by Strawberry Mansion Community Leader Tonetta Graham with assistance from Julie at Audubon Mid-Atlantic, participants witnessed firsthand how our free programming combines environmental education with guidance from our Community Engagement Committee to build mutually rewarding relationships between our neighborhood and the natural world.

Join us this Saturday (October 26) for FREE rock wall climbing!

Ages 8+ can join us for rock climbing at The Discovery Center. Registration is onsite, first come, first served. All gear provided. Participants under 18 must have a guardian with them to sign waiver.
