This week’s eruv message is in honor of the Militia Act. On the 19th of Tammuz in 1862, this law was enacted and it eliminated discrimination in allowing non-Christians to serve as chaplains in the US military. Rev. Jacob Frankel of Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Philadelphia became the first Jewish chaplain two months later.

Volunteers Needed for the Center City Eruv Campaign

Dear Friends,

We're getting ready to launch an important fundraising campaign for the Center City Eruv this summer, and we're looking for volunteers to help make it a success.

Whether you can help reach out to friends, make phone calls, or assist in other ways, we'd greatly appreciate your involvement. Even a small amount of time can make a real difference.

We'll be holding a brief volunteer training on Thursday or Friday this week. If you're interested in helping, please let me know ([email protected]), and I'll send you the details.

This week’s eruv message is in honor of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn. He was born on the 12th of Tammuz in 1880. Also on the 12th of Tammuz in 1927, he was ordered released from Soviet prison.

This week’s eruv message is in honor of Ezekiel’s Chariot. On the 5th of Tammuz, traditionally dated to 3332–3333 AM (≈429–428 BCE), the prophet Yechezkel received his vision of the Divine Chariot by the River Kvar — the same vision we read as the Haftorah for Shavuot.
