This trip to Washington means a little more when the welcome home was missing the first time.

Army Veterans Helen Peters and Sandy Schulz both served as nurses during the Vietnam War. This week, they are among the Alaska Veterans making the journey to Washington on the Last Frontier Honor Flight.

Decades later, their service is still being recognized.

When did the word “Veteran” start to feel like it belonged to you?

Leaving the military does not necessarily mean immediately seeing yourself as a Veteran.

Air Force Veteran Lisa Ducharme explores that transition in Becoming A Veteran:

A Guide to Embracing Your Veteran Identity, drawing from her own military experience, transition and work with other Veterans. VA’s Center for Women Veterans selected her for its October Women Veterans Book Corner.

For some women, that identity comes naturally. For others, it can take years.

Some women’s health conversations shouldn’t stop when military service ends.

From reproductive health to perimenopause and menopause, the health needs of women Veterans change over time. Knowing where to find appropriate care can be just as important as knowing when to ask for it.

New York State is bringing these issues together in an upcoming women Veterans health program covering health care, benefits, caregiving, financial support and mental wellness.

Sometimes preparing for the next opportunity means making sure you’re ready when it arrives.

Women Veterans in Los Angeles are getting some hands-on career support today through Battle Boutique, a program that brings employment resources, employer connections, professional headshots, and personal styling together in one place.

It's a different approach to career readiness, but one built around a very practical goal: helping women Veterans put their best foot forward for what comes next.

Sometimes access to care is only part of the story.

A VA pilot brought rural women Veterans together virtually for an eight-week chronic pain management program.

Researchers were looking at whether virtual care could help bridge the distance that can make treatment harder to access. What they also heard from participants was how much it mattered to be in a group with other women Veterans who understood their experiences.

For women living far from VA facilities and other Veterans, that connection can matter too.
