Liliane de Kermandec's ALOISE features both Isabelle Huppert and Delphine Seyrig portraying Swiss outsider artist Aloïse Corbaz during different periods of her life. ALOISE is often overshadowed by two other women-directed films from the same year starring Seyrig — INDIA SONG (Duras) and JEANNE DIELMAN (Akerman). Fully restored and returning to the big screen after decades in the shadows, this portrait of a complicated artist can now find its rightful place as a major work of world cinema.
