Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) begins tomorrow, October 1st!

SeniorLAW Center was proud to join Women Against Abuse today at its annual iPledge® Campaign, bringing together advocates, community organizations, and supporters to raise awareness about domestic violence and stand with survivors.

John Goldbloom, PAVE Advocate, Victim Services and Catherine Samara, Staff Attorney, Victim Services attended the press conference and tabled at the resource fair.

Catherine, who recently joined SeniorLAW Center, shared: "Honored to be part of a community of organizations that care deeply about advocating for justice for our community!"

This fall, SeniorLAW Center is partnering with four older adult centers around Philadelphia to provide community legal clinics for older Philadelphians. If you are aged 60 and older, sign up for a free 30-minute consultation with a SeniorLAW Center lawyer or legal advocate on housing rights including:

• Landlord/tenant issues including rental housing quality and repair issues, eviction prevention, subsidized or public housing issues, or other legal issues impacting your housing safety and stability.
• Homeownership issues including foreclosure, mortgage modifications, property tax problems, estate probate & tangled titles, deed transfers and quiet title actions.

If a SeniorLAW Center attorney can help you further, you will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment or be referred to another organization and/or information source regarding your issue. If you have questions or legal issues in our other areas of legal services including life planning, grandfamily custody, guardianship, financial exploitation or fraud, or physical abuse, we can conduct an intake for a telephonic consultation appointment for a later date.

Yesterday, SeniorLAW Center and pro bono partners Blank Rome and PECO/Exelon held a Life Planning Documents Legal Clinic for older adults. Approximately 45 volunteers (pro bono attorneys and interpreters) worked with 16 SeniorLAW Center clients to draft and finalize 50 advanced planning documents, such as simple wills, living wills, health care and/or financial power of attorneys.

Thank you to our partners for joining with us to provide critical legal services for SeniorLAW Center clients. We are especially grateful for Blank Rome's pro bono leaders Krystal Kane, Kathy Ochroch, and Shannon Robinson; PECO/Exelon's Antoinette Snodgrass and Leslie Mishrikey, as well as all the pro bono attorneys and interpreter volunteers from OLE (Organization of Latinos at Exelon) and Blank Rome.
