“These days we spend a lot of time online debating and arguing about the problems facing Philadelphia. But at some point, somebody has to be willing to step up and do the work.”
Jimmy didn’t start on our board. He started in the room with our students as an educator. That’s where he saw it firsthand: the opportunities they were being exposed to, the relationships being built, the ways their lives could change. Joining the board was his chance, in his words, to “get off the sidelines” and onto the front lines.
He calls himself a strategist, a connector, a fundraiser, and an educator. He uses his network to open doors for our students, helps guide where Inspiring Minds is headed, and still shows up at our programs to teach and mentor.
Why does it matter to him? Because young people need to see adults in their own community who care about them and who will give their time, resources, knowledge, and relationships to create opportunities for them.
And his biggest reward? The full circle. Watching students go to college, graduate, build careers, and then come back to pour into the next generation walking the same path they once walked.
“Dr. King said that everybody can be great because everybody can serve. Service may start with one person helping one child, but that impact can multiply across generations.”
