The Center for Public Health Practice at DUSPH The Center for Public Health Practice strives to create a bridge between academia and the public health workforce.

The CPHP is the home of the federally funded Pennsylvania Public Health Training Center, a collaborative project with the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health to increase the technical skills of the public health and health care workforce. The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) has defined public health practice as "the strategic, organized, and interdisciplinary a

pplication of knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to perform essential public health services and other activities to improve the population’s health."

A new community study reports that smoking rates in Philadelphia have dropped to 22.4 percent from 27.3 percent in 2008. Youth smoking rates have also dropped, 10.7 to 7.5 percent.

Officials credit the drop to the $2 cigarette tax passed in 2014 and aggressive anti-smoking campaigns, including PDPH program SmokeFree Philly.

Smoking rates in Philadelphia have dropped to all-time lows, reflecting the effects of a comprehensive tobacco-control campaign, city health officials said Monday.
