July 6 marks the celebration of the crowning of the founder of the state of Lithuania, Grand Duke Mindaugas, as king - State Day. On July 6, 1253, Mindaugas, the first and only king of Lithuania, was crowned.

On October 25, 1990, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania declared July 6 a state holiday. Despite the fact that Mindaugas' coronation day is a relatively new holiday, today more and more people like it.

A very beautiful and unique tradition related to Mindaugas is to sing the "National Anthem" for Lithuanians all over the world, no matter where they are, at exactly 9 p.m. This unique idea was born in 2009, celebrating the millennium of the name of Lithuania. On July 6 at exactly 9 p.m., the sailors of the yacht "Ambersail", sailing on the "Millennium Odyssey" around the world, decided to sing the national anthem to all Lithuanians. We can say that this initiative has already become a tradition today, a symbol of Lithuanian identity all over the world.
