This short clip from Philadelphia Inquirer highlights our failures and opportunities to prioritize green space and people over development and profits.

Powelton local Elizabeth Waring calls the Holly Street community garden a "place of peace." But gardeners worry that some of the abandoned land under the plo...

Invasive periwinkle is a common ground cover plant that can take over an understory, removing habitat for native vegetation ➡️ https://bit.ly/2SjRoqa.

A great native ground cover alternative is blue phlox, which attracts pollinators and hummingbirds as well. ⬇

See you this Saturday!

Urgent: Phone Zap to Protect Community Gardens & Green Spaces

Many of you are aware of the campaign being led by a collective of community gardens along with Cesar Andreú Iglesias Community Garden to stop the predatory use of sheriff sales to dispose of property from the City’s ownership and US Bank Liens portfolio. There are over 2,000 properties at risk of being lost with 109 going to sale in the next two months alone. 72 total properties are set for sale on February 4 and another 37 in March. They are concentrated in areas that are already disproportionately impacted by divestment, fresh food access, and fewer green spaces than other parts of the city. The stewards of these plots of land have been taking care of them for decades. Once they are sold, they are gone forever. Igelsias Garden has also been highlighting some of the gardens and side yards that are at risk on their instagram.

Call the Mayor’s office, City Council President Clarke, and other City reps.

Mayor Kenney: (215) 686-2181

The Mayor’s Chief of Staff: (215) 686-7508

Council President Clarke: (215) 686-3442 or (215) 686-3443

The parcels scheduled for sale are concentrated in districts 3 (Jamie Gauthier), 7 (Maria Quinones-Sanchez) and 8 (Cindy Bass) in case that is helpful to anyone for outreach and organizing purposes.
