Philly Select: Books, Basketball & Life Philly Select served thirteen adolescents in 2009 and anticipates future growth in 2011.

The goal of the organization was not just to give an adolescent a place to play, but to help young men in other areas of their lives, so that they may become the next generation of leaders.

18-2! La Salle ended its season in dominating fashion, jumping out to a 25-6 first quarter lead and winning 45-27. 11 of 16 Freshmen Explorers scored, and everyone contributed to the win. Alex Jones led La Salle with 9 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Zach Smith also had 9 and grabbed 4 rebounds. Jalen Herdsman added 8 points.

La Salle closed out its road schedule with a 48-35 win at Bonner. Alex Jones led La Salle with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while consistently picking apart the Bonner defense. Joe Di Andrea added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Mick Barrett scored 9 points. Tyrone Dean sparked the Freshmen Explorers off the bench with a 3 pointer and his usual excellent defense.

La Salle won a tightly contested matchup over Wissahickon 38-36. Mick Barrett led the Freshmen Explorers in scoring with 14 points. Jalen Herdsman added 8 points and 4 rebounds. Alex Jones contributed 6 assists and 4 steals.

La Salle put together one of its best defensive efforts of the year, beating Wood 41-17. Mick Barrett led the Explorers scoring with 13 points. Nine other Explorers scored, none scoring more than 4. Nick Di Pasquale grabbed 5 rebounds, while Jason Jones and Nick Kush added 4 each. Alex Jones added 3 rebounds while providing a great lift in his return from injury.

La Salle dropped a second overtime contest, falling 44-36 to Judge. Sean Greenberg scored 8 points. Mick Barrett added 7 and Nick Kush and Joe Di Andrea each added 5.

La Salle righted itself winning 43-31 at McDevitt. The Freshmen Explorers outscored McDevitt 32-9 in the second and third quarters to take control of the game. Mick Barrett had 10 points and 3 steals. Jalen Herdsman added 6 points and 4 rebounds. Joe Di Andrea and Zach Morris scored 5 each and Tyrone Dean, Brad Schneider, and Nick Di Pasquale added 4 points each.

La Salle lost its first game of the season, 39-45 in overtime to Archbishop Carroll. Mick Barrett scored 18 points. Jalen Herdsman added 8 points and 11 rebounds.

La Salle won a defensive struggle over St. Joe's Prep 29-16. The Freshmen Explorers struggled to score at times, but allowed 3,4, and 2 points each over the final three quarters. Jalen Herdsman scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Alex Jones added 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Tyrone Dean had 5 points and 5 steals.
