‼️Exciting News for Naturopathic Doctors in Pennsylvania‼️

After decades of relentless advocacy from multiple generations of naturopaths, we are thrilled to announce that Naturopathic Doctors can now officially register in Pennsylvania! 🎉

Steps to Register:

1. Create an Account: Start by creating an account on the Pennsylvania licensing website: https://www.pals.pa.gov/ #!/page/default

2. Registration Checklist: Once you've created your account, you'll receive a registration checklist to guide you through the process.

The registration process involves several steps, some of which may be confusing. If you need support, I highly recommend contacting the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine at 717-783-1400. They've been very helpful so far.

Why Register?

This is a registration, not a licensure, which means it doesn't include scope of practice but does provide title protection for "Naturopathic Doctors" and the "ND" title.

If you encounter any traditional naturopaths improperly using these titles in PA, you can report them to the PANP or directly to the PA Board of Medicine.

Benefits of Registration:

Title Protection: Secure your right to use the "Naturopathic Doctor" and "ND" titles.

Official Certificate: You'll receive an official certificate from the state, which can be proudly displayed in your office. This certificate can help build credibility with clients and colleagues alike.

Business Benefits: Many supplement and lab companies require state registration to create accounts. This registration will allow you to access these resources more easily.

Advocacy: A strong showing of registered naturopaths will be crucial as we work to build on this foundation with future legislative efforts.

Now is the time we need your support the most! If you want naturopathic medicine to be more accessible in PA, have naturopathic services covered by insurance, and be able to choose a naturopathic doctor as your primary care provider one day, then it’s time to take action!

The PA Board of Medicine has delivered the final rule making package to the Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) on the deadline of January 18, 2024. If approved, PA would allow naturopathic doctors to become registered. Registration provides ND’s title protection and is an essential step for licensure to eventually take place.

The Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) will be making this decision on March 21st during their next meeting. We need your help by March 20th to let the IRRC know that Pennsylvania wants a choice in their healthcare!

Dear Chairman George D. Bewick and IRRC Members:

I am contacting you to voice my support for the regulation implementing the Naturopathic Doctors Registration Act (Regulation -4953: Registration of Naturopathic Doctors).

This regulation will allow Naturopathic Doctors in Pennsylvania to work with patients who can be assured of a Naturopathic Doctor's training, background and proper regulation.

This final-form regulation also contains language that correctly distinguishes Naturopathic Doctors from other various lay practitioners in the Commonwealth. This was accomplished by the PA State Board of Medicine voting to strike section 18.907(b) of the regulation which the PA Association of Naturopathic Physicians has been supportive of.

We are seeking your help and assistance. The Virginia Association of Naturopathic Physicians has been diligently moving SB 1218 and HB 2044 through the state legislature. We are reaching out to broaden awareness with as many VA residents as possible, and are asking you to share the following action alert encouraging FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND COLLEAGUES WHO ARE VA RESIDENTS to make targeted contact to the subcommittee members in the next 48 hours, urging them to SUPPORT VA HB 2044.

We greatly appreciate you forwarding the following message (see below) by close of business 1/19 to your constituents on behalf of the AANP and VAANP. Again, noting we are sharing this message broadly - but only asking for Virginia residents to take action at this time.

Our ND licensure bill in the House, HB 2044, is likely to be heard this week in the HWI Health Professions subcommittee.

During the Senate hearing, opponents brazenly pushed the misinformed narrative about the qualifications, capabilities, and even purpose of medically trained NDs - as we knew they would. They are likely to do the same with the House companion bill - which is why we need ALL our advocates and supporters to make targeted contact to the subcommittee members QUICKLY, urging them to SUPPORT HB 2044.

These are the KEY MESSAGES that the subcommittee need to hear from advocates:

Naturopathic Doctors are medically trained and educated; they have the skills and qualifications necessary to have a practice license. Almost half the nation already regulates the profession - and ALL licensed states use the exact education and training requirements from our bill!

HB 2044 creates a very limited scope of practice; this legislation is focused on the very basics of health care. And nothing in our bill will harm lay naturopaths or their business - in fact, we put specific exemptions in HB 2044 at their request, and have worked with several different groups on these protections.
This is about public safety and expanding access to health care; Virginia should license NDs because it is the responsible and practical step to ensuring informed access to better naturopathic medical care.
