Whether you’re voting by mail ballot or in person at the polls on Election Day, it’s important that you make your voice heard. Make note of these important dates:

🗓️ Oct. 19 – Last day to register to vote in the midterm election. vote.pa.gov/Register

🗓️ Oct. 27 – Last day to apply for a mail ballot. vote.pa.gov/MailBallot

🗓️ Nov. 3 – Election Day. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Today marks the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment—a milestone in the fight for voting rights, but not the end of that fight.

The amendment prohibited denying the right to vote on the basis of s*x, but in practice, it did not give all women the right to vote. Women of color continued to face discriminatory laws, intimidation, and other barriers to the ballot. It took decades of organizing and advocacy—and the Voting Rights Act of 1965—to strengthen federal protections against racial discrimination in voting.

That history matters today.

As the SAVE Act threatens to create new barriers to voter registration, we have to remember the lessons of our history: when access to the ballot gets harder, the people most affected are often those who have had to fight the hardest to gain that access in the first place.

The fight for voting rights continues. Tell your senators to vote 'NO' on the SAVE Act!

On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified after generations of women marched, lobbied, and refused to quit. This was a milestone, not a finish line: Native, Asian, Latina, and many African American women wouldn't gain full access to the ballot until years later. The League of Women Voters was founded six months before ratification. We honor all who fought then and all who carry that fight now.

Yesterday, the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota became the 23rd court to dismiss the Justice Department's lawsuit demanding unlawful disclosure of private voter information. Thirty-one suits have been filed. None have succeeded. https://bit.ly/3SjaiiR
