Join Let's Go 1-2-3 and Lancaster County Parks - Lancaster County Environmental Center on Wednesday, June 10th from 3-5 pm to learn by doing, caring for nature and our planet. Discover something new about the Lancaster County Environmental Center and help us manage an area of weedy and invasive plants impacting the native landscape around the center and Shuts library.

People of all ages benefit from the center, library, and love of our Lancaster parks! This is an easy way to meet new people and give back to nature through volunteer service!

This past Saturday, Let's Go 1-2-3 teamed up with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Friends of Reservoir Park , Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Penn State Master Gardeners of Lancaster County and other conservation partners and volunteers to host our very first PA Invasive Replace-ive (PAIR) event at Reservoir Park in the City of Lancaster, PA.

More than 90 people dropped by to pick up 400 native trees and shrubs! Partners shared information and resources. THANK YOU to everyone who removed invasive plants from your landscapes, nearby parks and/or trails to make way for Pennsylvania's beautiful native trees and shrubs.

Together we are improving the environmental health of neighborhoods and landscapes for people and wildlife! 🌳🌿

Let Go 1-2-3 hosted Nature Tuesday at this week, and our cyanotype activity drew neighborhood folks of all ages!

Cyanotypes use the power of the SUN ☀️ to create a photo-like image. Participants foraged for some beautiful plants and natural artifacts, designed their image, and let the sun work its magic. Dipping the image in a cool bath of water for processing was extra rewarding because the day was HOT!

We loved hearing so much positive feedback on the activity, with grown ups and children alike interested in how it works and considering the activity for their own summertime events.

Catch us at our upcoming Nature Tuesdays on 6/23 for a Butterflies and Pollinators activity and on 7/14 for a Do-It-Yourself Watershed activity. All programs run from 4-5:15pm.

Taking care of our natural environment leads to deeper connection. Let's Go 1-2-3 (Philly!) and the Kingsessing Recreation Center have partnered for monthly litter cleanups. Volunteers will primary work together to clean the perimeter of the rec center, and may be asked to do other specific jobs depending on the needs of the center.

Join us for litter cleanups on any or all of the following dates*:

🌻 Thursday, 6/25 10am-12pm (We'll focus on getting the pool deck area cleaned before it opens for the season!)
🌻Tuesday, 7/14 10am-12pm
🌻Thursday, 8/13 10am-12pm
🌻Saturday, 9/26 10am-12pm
🌻Saturday, 10/24 10am-12pm
*In the event of rain or inclement weather, the cleanups will occur the following day at the same time.

Bring a friend or two, and meet us at the 50th/Kingsessing Ave Entrance. We will provide all supplies as well as some snacks and drinks.

It was great being outside at the May Fair put on by this past Saturday.

We got to share with our Philly community how we are making outdoor experiences possible through environmental education and stewardship. Stay tuned for upcoming posts with more info about how to get involved!

It’s great when we can connect with whole families— kids loved our nature scavenger hunt and butterfly metamorphosis demo, and adults loved hearing about our upcoming litter cleanups at Kingsessing Rec Center.

Special thanks to Hannah, our Community Partnerships and Engagement Coordinator in Philly, and our board members, Dottie and Gary, for helping us spread our mission to hundreds!

Let’s Go 1-2-3 has partnered with of Philadelphia for monthly Nature Days!

These free programs encourage young people and families to get outside and more deeply connect with their natural environment through learning, exploration, and play.

At this month’s Celebrate Trees! event, kids explored the impressive benefits trees provide our community and used their senses to make observations of the benefits in action.

Some of the benefits we explored:
🌳 Trees and people have a symbiotic relationship— we breath oxygen from trees, and trees breathe in carbon dioxide from us!
🌳 Trees cool our city through shade and evapotranspiration
🌳 Trees reduce stormwater runoff and help protect our waterways
🌳Trees provide homes for many insects and animals

Kids asked awesome scientific questions, like “how do trees eat?” and “why do trees change colors?” that led to knowledge sharing amongst young people and adults. Many didn’t realize all the amazing things trees do for us!
