Over the weekend, we CELEBRATED TREES with our local Philadelphia community. ✨🌳✨

We popped up at Cedar Park Neighbors monthly Work and Play day and then headed over to Clark Park for the Woodland Ave Reunion Festival.

Youth and families learned about many benefits trees provide our neighborhoods, explored tree artifacts, climbed trees, identified trees using a guide, painted their favorite trees, and more!

We love connecting with the next generation of environmental stewards and inspiring love for our local green spaces.

Through a partnership among the School District of Lancaster, Let's Go 1-2-3 and the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps, the crew worked at McCaskey High School and Elizabeth R. Martin School to clear trails, remove invasive plants and prepare outdoor classrooms for students and teachers.

This was the second summer SDoL hosted a Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps crew. The program, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in partnership with the Student Conservation Association, gives high school students and recent graduates paid experience working on conservation projects.

Last year, most of the participating youth came from other school districts. This year, McCaskey High School students joined the Lancaster crew.

Let's Go 1-2-3 is thrilled to once again partner with the Hazel I Jackson Foundation and the School District of Lancaster/Hazel I. Jackson Middle School for the 6th annual “JACKSON DAY OF ACTION”. Students are invited to join us for this exciting event and celebrate ways to stay healthy! “Jackson Day of Action” honors the late Hazel I. Jackson’s legacy empowering excellence in classrooms and opening doors for all ages especially students.

This year’s theme is “HEALTHY IN & OUT…A BETTER YOU”. Students will have opportunities to learn and explore four stations:

🕺EXERCISE – Dance with Solis White of Soul Kharisma and relax through yoga with Nicole Miller
👩🏾‍⚕️MENTAL HEALTH – Learn about student wellness with Laurel Greer from Compass Mark and pick up a FREE health and hygiene kit
💼CAREER – Explore career options with Sarah Le Tourneau from PA CareerLink Lancaster County
🌿ENVIRONMENT – Pot up your own herbs to take home, pickup info on conservation careers, and make a fresh, delicious caprese salad with Lydia Martin and Keisha Scovens of Let’s Go 1-2-3

Thank you to our amazing West Philly neighbors who’ve been showing up for our monthly Clean Up days at Kingsessing Rec Center! We especially love when we get some doggie helpers 🐶♥️

Since June, we’ve gathered monthly to clean up litter, tend to sports fields, and even prepare the pool for opening. It’s been a fantastic time connecting with neighbors and working together to care for our beloved green space!

We’ve got a couple more dates for the season, and would love to see you there!

It's Back To School time and Let's Go 1-2-3 will be at the Penn Medicine Park (formerly Clipper Magazine Stadium) in Lancaster for the 15th annual Back To School Event hosted by Representative Smith-Wade-El and Rep. Nikki Rivera. At our table, students will be receiving pencils and 8th-12th graders can sign up for our Careers Outdoors Program (https://forms.gle/kffdxLA9HdrKnWfE7). Hope to see you there.

Let's Go 1-2-3 in partnership with the School District of Lancaster and the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps (through the Student Conservation Association and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) leveraged our partnership to work on restoring outdoor classrooms at McCaskey High School and Elizabeth R. Martin School. The youth team spent the last two weeks improving these greenspaces.

McCaskey Outdoor Classroom & Campus Tree Care:
🛤Resurfaced a 60’ length of trail thanks to a donation of trail material from Allan Myers Inc. and support from the City of Lancaster, PA for pickup and drop off
🌾Identified and removed invasive species like European buckthorn, Asian bittersweet, and exotic bush honeysuckles in the forest understory
🌿Explored native plants of the McCaskey woods (transplanted native sedges and learned about native plant communities)
🗑 Cleaned up trash and debris
🌳Learned how to care for our young native trees we planted in honor of the late Brother Frank Albrecht (save-the-date: Sat, Oct 24, another McCaskey tree planting phase is coming this fall)

ER Martin Outdoor Classroom:
💦Cleaned up the benches and table in the outdoor classroom along the stream
🌾Identified and removed invasive species like Asian bittersweet vines, exotic bush honeysuckles, multiflora rose shrubs, mugwort, and Japanese stiltgrass along the stream
🌳Planted pawpaws along the stream to support our native swallowtail butterflies
🗑 Cleaned up trash and debris along the trail and in the stream

On Wednesday all of the partners and youth came together to talk about our professional careers and listen to each youth share their plans for the future and how they were impacted by their experiences outdoors.

The Pennsylvania Outdoor Corp - Lancaster youth team did a fantastic job stewarding our outdoor classrooms plus had FUN along the way, THANK YOU!

Let's Go 1-2-3 in partnership with Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, City of Lancaster, PA, Friends of Reservoir Park and Lancaster Recreation Commission had an unforgettable Outdoors for All Day at Reservoir Park. We wanted to share photos of this special event in case you missed it!

The Lancaster community came together to celebrate nature and outdoor recreation in Reservoir Park. There was something for everyone and a wealth of info shared about clean water, air and our natural resources plus so much more:

We celebrated the Conestoga River as "River of the Year" with the Conestoga River Club.
