The Korean American Association of Greater Philadelphia is seeking a Horsham Township resident who is a U.S. military veteran of the Korean War.

As part of the America 250 Independence Day Parade in Philadelphia on Friday, July 3, 2026, we would be honored to have a Korean War veteran ride in one of the VIP seats on our parade float.

The Korean American Association will be participating with approximately 200 parade marchers and three floats, including a full-scale replica of the historic Korean Turtle Ship (Geobukseon) of 1592, one of Korea’s most iconic symbols of courage, innovation, and freedom. The Turtle Ship was built in South Korea by S-ONE and is currently being reassembled in Horsham Township before the parade.

The Turtle Ship represents Korea’s naval achievements of the past. Its modern-day counterpart can be seen today at Hanwha Philly Shipyard, where advanced ships are being built in Philadelphia through cooperation between the United States and Korea.

This historic event will be viewed by thousands of spectators and will celebrate both the 250th Anniversary of American Independence and the enduring friendship and alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

If you know a Korean War veteran who resides in Horsham Township and may be interested in this honor, please contact us as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us recognize the service and sacrifice of America’s Korean War veterans.

Why the Korean American Association Matters

The Korean American Association is not simply a social or networking group. It is the central organization that enables Korean Americans to support one another, protect one another, and speak with a unified voice.

We live in the United States—a nation founded on the principle of
“one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

So where do Korean Americans stand within that vision?

We are not outsiders merely residing here. We are meant to be an integral part of mainstream America—participating, contributing, and helping shape the future of this country.

The Korean American Association makes that possible.

It allows us to preserve our cultural identity while actively engaging in American society— to find the balance between who we are and where we belong.

Korean American Churches, Catholic parishes, Buddhist temples, and many other Korean American organizations all serve important roles within their communities.
However, the Korean American Association is the one organization that brings everyone together—
across faiths, professions, and generations—and represents the community as a whole.

It helps us:

* Support one another
* Speak with one voice
* Prepare the next generation
* And stand confidently within American society

In simple terms, it is
“the community that unites Korean Americans, amplifies their voice, and builds a path for future generations within the promise of America.”

What one person cannot accomplish alone, a united community can achieve together. And that is the role of the Korean American Association.

Yesterday, I had lunch with my nephew. He is getting married next month—a young man born and raised in the United States, very well educated, and full of promise.

In the middle of our conversation, he asked me a simple question:
“Uncle, what is the Korean American Association? What kind of organization is it?”

It was such a simple question—yet it stayed with me.

I have been asked similar questions before, even by older members of our community. But hearing it from someone in his twenties, someone who represents our next generation, felt different. It felt heavier.

I found myself unsettled—not because he asked, but because I realized something deeper.
If the next generation does not clearly understand who we are and what we do, then perhaps we have not done enough to define it ourselves.

That question stayed with me through the evening, and into this morning. It pushed me to reflect—deeply and honestly.

What is the Korean American Association? What do we truly stand for? Why does it matter today—not fifty, sixty years ago, but now?

I even turned to AI and asked the same questions in English, just to see how it would respond.
And in reading those answers, I realized something important:

This is not just about explaining an organization. It is about rediscovering our purpose—and making sure it is clear enough that the next generation does not have to ask.

S-ONE MNO USA LLC is constructing a replica of the great Korean Turtle Ship, originally built in 1592 by Admiral Yi Sun-sin, which played a pivotal role in defending Korea against the invading Imperial Japanese Navy.

This Korean Turtle Ship will serve as the leading float in the July 4th Parade, commemorating the 250th Anniversary of America’s Independence. As Americans of Korean heritage, we proudly celebrate the greatness of the United States and the strength found in its diversity.
