✨ THROWBACK TO 2026 NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK! ✨

As we look back on an incredible week this past April, we’re proud of what the Philadelphia Host Committee and our partners accomplished together — 50+ partners, 8 events, and more than 9,400 students and community members reached!

From our first-ever NAW Kickoff Celebration at the Laborers’ Training Center and four Union Experience Fairs, to Union Open Houses at the Finishing Trades Institute and EAS Carpenters and Philadelphia City Council Resolution Day, the week was all about creating awareness, opening doors, and connecting Philadelphia’s next generation to family-sustaining careers through registered apprenticeship.

👏 A special shoutout to our 2026 Philadelphia Host Committee — Kelly Ross and Dasmin Frith, Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council; Renee Wilson, Senator Saval’s Office; and Monica Robinson, Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO — for the countless hours of planning and collaboration that made it all possible. And an extra special thank you to Monica Robinson, whose leadership, dedication, and commitment were instrumental in bringing it all together!

Thank you to every union, school, elected official, educator, partner, volunteer, student, and community member who made 2026 National Apprenticeship Week one to remember.

🎥 And we’re not done looking back! Stay tuned as we share videos highlighting each and every event from an unforgettable week.

📅 SAVE THE DATE: National Apprenticeship Week returns to Philadelphia April 25 – May 1, 2027!

We’re already looking forward to what’s next! 🛠️

🏀 THROWBACK THURSDAY — ARE YOU READY, PHILLY?! 🏀

The 40th Annual Philadelphia Building Trades All Star Labor Classic is coming — and we’re getting ready for the best high school all-star basketball game in the city!

📅 Sunday, April 18, 2027
📍 Holy Family University

For 40 years, the All Star Labor Classic has been about so much more than basketball. It’s about celebrating our student-athletes, investing in their futures and giving back to our community.

🎓 Last year, more than $60,000 in college scholarships was awarded to our players — making the All Star Labor Classic the only game of its kind in the nation to provide a college scholarship to every participating player.

❤️ Even more importantly, all proceeds from the event benefit The Superhero Project Inc., an incredible local nonprofit dedicated to supporting families with babies in the NICU.

As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary, we’re looking back at four decades of unforgettable players, incredible games and a Philadelphia Building Trades tradition that continues to grow.

40 YEARS. ONE INCREDIBLE TRADITION. 🏀❤️

Save the date and get ready, Philly — April 18, 2027!

When one of our own needs help, the Building Trades show up.

That’s what the Jack Dempsey Unity Fund is all about — making sure our union brothers, sisters, and their families have support when they need it most.

The Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council is proud to support the Jack Dempsey Unity Fund Masquerade Gala on November 14, 2026, honoring one of our own, Butch Bennett.

ATAP is a program of the Philadelphia Building Trades providing critical behavioral health and substance use support to union members, retirees, and their families. Through the Jack Dempsey Unity Fund, that support can go even further by assisting members who may lack adequate insurance coverage or need financial help while undergoing treatment.

This is what solidarity looks like — Building Trades members taking care of Building Trades members.

We’re calling on our affiliated unions, contractors, industry partners, friends, and supporters to stand with us by sponsoring, advertising, contributing, or joining us for this special night.

Last week, the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council proudly hosted its 29th Annual Charity Golf Outing, raising more than $175,000 for charity!

The generosity of Philadelphia’s Building Trades community is truly unmatched. Year after year, our affiliated unions, contractors, partners, and supporters continue to step up—not only for one another, but for the communities where we live, work, and raise our families. The continued growth of this outing, both in participation and dollars raised, is a testament to that incredible spirit of giving.

What makes this event especially meaningful is where these dollars go. Our focus is on supporting smaller, local organizations where our contributions can make a direct and tangible impact on individuals, families, and neighborhoods throughout our region.

Beneficiaries include the Jack Dempsey Unity Fund, which directly supports members of our Building Trades family in times of need; Potter’s House Mission; Rock Ministries; St. Francis Inn; and other deserving organizations doing important work right here in our community.

More than $175,000 raised. Hundreds coming together for one cause. And countless lives impacted because of the generosity of the Philadelphia Building Trades family.

Thank you to every union, sponsor, contractor, golfer, volunteer, and supporter who helped make our 29th Annual Charity Golf Outing another tremendous success.

When the Building Trades come together, we take care of our own—and we take care of our community.

Business Manager Ryan Boyer addresses the crowd at a press conference in support of Josh Shapiro for Governor:

“When you get accepted into a union apprenticeship program, there is hope that you have a pathway out of poverty. We ask you a simple question: Who keeps that hope burning? And who extinguishes it? It is clear the ticket of Shapiro-Davis not only get the fire burning, they put an incinerator to make it the most pro-union apprenticeship administration in the history of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

Union apprenticeships create opportunity. They build careers, strengthen families, and provide a pathway to the middle class.

Vote Shapiro-Davis! 🗳️ 🇺🇸 🏗️

Yesterday, Butch Bennett, Assistant Business Manager of the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council, had the opportunity to meet with students from Mayfair Elementary School to discuss the many career pathways available through the union building trades.

The conversation was led by Jamiah Washington, a 10th-grade student interviewer for The Dope Student Podcast, as part of Mayfair’s Career and Technical Education Program, led by Evin “The Dope Teacher” Jarrett.

Introducing students to the skilled trades at an early age helps them see the rewarding opportunities that exist right here in our region. From apprenticeship programs to lifelong careers with excellent wages, benefits, and world-class training, the union building trades continue to provide a strong foundation for the next generation.

A special thank you to Jamiah, Evin Jarrett, and everyone at Mayfair Elementary for the opportunity to connect with students and inspire the future workforce. We look forward to continuing to build partnerships that empower young people and showcase the many opportunities available in the union building trades.

In this episode, we explore the importance of skilled trades in Phi...
