District Council 33 is deeply shaken by the tragic shooting involving two Philadelphia police officers, including Officer Shane Seiber, who was killed in the line of duty. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Officer Seiber's family, loved ones, and colleagues, and we offer our sincere well-wishes for the full recovery of the officer who survived. Both officers are public servants and city employees, and this profound loss and suffering are felt across our entire municipal workforce.
The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, involving a member of District Council 33 employed by the Philadelphia Water Department, are heartbreaking and deeply troubling. We want to be absolutely clear: District Council 33 does not condone violence in any form, under any circumstances. This act of violence is not reflective of our values, our mission, or the conduct we expect from our members. Our union stands for dignity, respect, accountability, and responsibility, principles that guide the work our members perform every day on behalf of the residents of Philadelphia.
We mourn alongside the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Police Department as they grieve the loss of Officer Seiber, and we stand firmly with all those committed to justice, accountability, and the safety of every worker and every resident.
District Council 33 will continue to cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities as this matter proceeds.
