Huge thanks to for inviting us into their magical wild space to view so many birds, including a Great Horned Owl(!), and thanks to everyone who came out to join us. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day! Bonus: can you guess which birds we're dressed as in slide 4?

Huge thanks to and everyone who came out in the rain this weekend! We got great looks at some Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks, a Scarlet Tanager, and Northern Flickers among many other great birds (many before we even left the parking lot). Plus, bonus cool mushrooms!

Join Feminist Bird Club Philly and Audubon Mid-Atlantic on Saturday, October 28, from 10am-12pm at the Discovery Center (3401 Reservoir Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19121) for a bird outing. We'll meet outside of the Visitor Center.

We plan to be out for approximately 2 hours, but folks are welcome to stay for as long or as short as they want. We will have extra binoculars available for anyone who needs to borrow them. Sign-up is not required but encouraged for this event, and we ask that each individual register separately. We'll be sending updates to people who register in the event that we need to make weather-related changes/cancellations. Please email [email protected] with any questions or message us here on Instagram .philly.

Please note that the entrance to The Discovery Center is not visible from the parking lot. The paved walkway up to the entrance is ADA accessible, as are all of our buildings and restrooms. The trail is wide and grass-covered, with a section of mulch at the beginning of the trail and a somewhat steep entrance. The trail is flat otherwise, but there may be tree roots and other natural items on the path. The water walk has a lip of 1 to 2 inches from the ground to the dock ramp and one step. For the safety of your pets, only service animals are allowed at The Discovery Center. The parking lot is gravel, with two van-accessible parking spots.

At FBC Philly events, everyone must be respectful of one another. This includes being considerate of new birders, acknowledging an individual’s pronouns, and rejecting any racist, sexist, ableist, classist, homophobic, sizeist, or xenophobic behaviors.

Join .philly, , , , and for a Little Sit on Sunday, October 22, from 8:00-11:00 am at the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center.

What's a "little sit?" The Little Sit is our answer to a typically day-long, stationary birding event called a "big sit," where groups try to see as many birds in one location as possible. At this event, we will be meeting and staying in one location from 8-11 am. Stop by and stay for as long as you like. There will be some shaded areas in our spot, and please bring anything you need to feel comfortable for the duration of your visit (blanket/chair, water, snack, extra layers). We will have extra binoculars to borrow. We encourage everyone to join, even if you have never been birding!

The Fairmount Park Horticulture Center is located at 100 N. Horticulture Dr., Philadelphia. We will be located in the backside of the building. If driving in from Horticultural Drive, there are accessible parking spaces in the front and around the back of the building. There is also plenty of parking (including accessible parking spaces) available in the large lot marked on this map. SEPTA Bus 38 (in both directions) drops off at Belmont Avenue near the Horticulture Center. Details on getting there & away are in the link in our bio.

Registration is encouraged but not required (registration link in bio). We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Join Feminist Bird Club Philly on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6 - 7:30 pm at Awbury Arboretum for a mostly stationary outing. Feel free to bring chairs, blankets, and/or a snacks! We'll be looking for Common Nighthawks migrating at dusk as well as some other fall migrants!

We'll plan to meet up the hill from the lower pond (near Washington Lane Regional Rail Station at 6235 Clearview St.; here's a pin to an approximate meet up location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jrV3RHbtEz2dLJPm7). Folks are welcome to come anytime between 6 - 7:30 pm and stay for as long or as short as they want.

By Regional Rail: there is a pedestrian entrance to the Arboretum directly across from Washington Lane Station on SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill East Line. From there, you can enjoy the pond and meadow, follow Station Road towards the Cope House and AdventureWoods, or cross Washington Lane to visit The Farm. Join us for a winter birding event at John Heinz Wildlife Refuge on Sunday, February 12 from 9-11 am. People of all genders are welcome to attend. All skill levels are encouraged!

We'll plan to be out for approximately two hours, but folks are welcome to stay for as long or as short as they want.

ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
There are unisex bathrooms at the refuge, as well as paved trails. All birding abilities encouraged to attend, even if you have never birded before! We'll have three pairs of binoculars to borrow for those who need.

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System. A network of lands set aside for the benefit of native wildlife and plants. Established in 1972 through local activism, the refuge is a treasured green space nestled within the city of Philadelphia, teeming with a rich diversity of fish, wildlife, and plants native to the Delaware Estuary.

The refuge has been designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. It’s diverse habitats provide a sanctuary for birds in Greater Philadelphia. Over 300 different species have been recorded here, with 90 species known to nest on the refuge.

Public Transportation to the Visitor Center:
SEPTA Bus: Take Route 37 and 108 buses to 84th St. and Lindbergh Blvd. The Visitor Center is approximately 0.5 miles from the bus stop.
SEPTA Regional Rail: Take the Airport Line to Eastwick Station. The Visitor Center is approximately 1 mile from the train station
