Friends of Fishtown at Palmer Park

Friends of Fishtown at Palmer Park We are a group of neighborhood residents who are dedicated to maintaining this small community green space.

We got together about 1987 to work on beautification projects in Fishtown and have since concentrated exclusively on Palmer Park. In 2008, we were recognized by Fairmont Park as the official Friends group. OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Infrastructure:
- Improved lighting in the interior of park
- Installed fencing around the circular garden beds
- Replaced wooden benches with durable metal
- Installed mode

- Replaced the interior sidewalks (macadam) with cement and upgraded curbing

Planting:
- Planted flowering cherry trees and a dogwood
- Planted a spruce as a permanent community Christmas tree
- Replaced street trees on Palmer for more appropriate-sized specimens
- Planted several hundred daffodils for spring blooming

Events:
- Chosen by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to host family-friendly outdoor movie nights

It was a very Green weekend in Palmer Park...literally and figuratively. Neil Brecher, of Fishtown Beer Runners fame, donated some lovely hostas to our shade garden with a promise of more to come! We always welcome plant donations so whenever ENLIVEN brings you new stuff...give us the old stuff! We will even pick up!

We also were gifted with several donations on our QR found on our Park Cards and posters in the park. A special thanks to Tim S. for his generous contribution. 100% of your donation (minus Venmo fee) goes to Palmer Park plants and supplies and maintenance. So please keep the GREEN coming and make some time to stop by the park this Saturday and lend a hand to keep Palmer amazing this summer!!

Exciting news for Palmer Park!!🍅🥬🥔 Storm Crow Farm will be hosting a farmer’s market each Sunday morning at the park! The first official market was last Sunday and we got a ton of positive feedback from our neighbors. So stroll on by for some farm-fresh produce grown right here in PA!!! Palmer Park has once again become a movie set!! You may have noticed a film crew in the park yesterday. Our sources say it was a Philly based production company, Rabbit Rabbit Films filming a movie called Sky, Blue, Pink. Maybe we’ll get to see our little park on the big screen!! 👀🎬🎥

Many thanks to Philly Tree People and their volunteers who planted TWO new trees in the park today!! 🌳🌳The one closer to Frankford is a zelkova zileration and the other is a crab apple tree! In order for both trees to thrive, please keep all dogs from using the bathroom on or near the trees!

Both will need a healthy watering once a week so if you’re interested in helping, please reach out or join us on Saturday mornings for our weekly sweep!

First Sweep of the Season in the books! Way to go Luke and Durda from Cub Scout Pack 1432-- not only did Luke earn extra merit points for his community service today, but he rescued an earthworm and got to add the experience to his nature journal!
