Penn Association for Gender Equity - PAGE

Penn Association for Gender Equity - PAGE PAGE, the Penn Association for Gender Equity, promotes gender and social justice and serves as an umbrella group for a diverse range of constituent groups.

The Penn Association for Gender Equality (PAGE) is a student association at the University of Pennsylvania that aims to promote gender and social justice. We are an umbrella group that provides support for any and all student groups whose missions pertain to women’s or gender issues. Our diverse constituency encompasses the PAGE mission through their work both on and off campus to support women an

d strive for gender equity. PAGE provides a space for discussion, reflection, and action on topics of concern to people who care about issues relating to women and gender equity. We accomplish this through various programming activities and engagement with both administration and other student groups. Past events include campaigns on Locust Walk, open mic nights, karaoke, meet and greets, film screenings, and discussions. We focus on a large event, Women’s Week, in the spring, which brings together people who are interested in women’s issues with programming for a full week on Penn’s campus. We are housed out of the Penn Women’s Center and hold open meetings in that space bi-weekly. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in discussion about issues at hand!

Penn Non-Cis and PAGE collaborated to create a language guide for trans inclusivity. If you are a student organization who wants to create safe spaces for your trans peers, read the guide attached below!

Since 2009, March 31 has been Transgender Day of Visibility, a celebration of trans lives and their contributions to society. It is also intended to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by trans people. In contrast with Trans Day of Remembrance, which mourns the loss of trans people to violence, Trans Day of Visibility is intended to uplift trans lives and voices.

As students, we have seen and experienced the use of transmisogynistic and cissexist language at Penn. This guide is intended to provide Penn-specific information on the use of trans-inclusive language for those affiliated with the university.

The use of inclusive language is not what makes a space trans-friendly or safe. Take concrete action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of trans students. Support campaigns on campus for gender neutral bathrooms, trans-competent medical care, and menstrual product access.
