After more than a decade of service, the Philadelphia Furniture Bank and Good Haul will officially cease operations on June 30.
Over 12 years, the Philadelphia Furniture Bank partnered with 121 nonprofits to furnish more than 10,000 homes, supporting over 22,000 individuals and families across the region. This included people exiting homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, families in reunification, individuals with disabilities, and others navigating major life transitions.
Since 2022, Good Haul helped extend that impact by giving furniture and household items a second life through donation, redistribution, and responsible hauling services. Together, these programs worked to keep usable items in the community and out of landfills whenever possible.
To make this work accessible, we intentionally kept costs low for partners and clients, relying on philanthropy and government partnerships to help bridge the gap. In recent years, significant changes to federal funding, including the loss of the Emergency Housing Voucher program, combined with increased competition for private philanthropy, made it impossible to sustainably continue operations.
We are deeply grateful to the staff, partners, supporters, customers, volunteers, and community members who made this work possible over the years. Together, we helped thousands of individuals and families turn empty spaces into homes, and we are proud of the impact these programs had in the community.
