This is Steve from Rep. Fiedler's office. I'm writing because we recently learned that PennDOT is currently soliciting public comments on their plans to redo I-95 in the next decade. These are big changes that we feel like the whole community should have a say on, but we fear that hardly anyone is aware of the public comment process.
We are also extremely concerned that PennDot may remove the athletic fields at 7th and Packer/Bigler that are used by kids in the SEYAA, EOM, DVYAA, and Philly Dragons athletic programs.
We (along with Councilmember Squilla and Senator Saval) will be meeting with PennDOT, but as civic and community leaders, Rep. Fiedler is asking that you please encourage folks in your network to publicly comment on the proposals. The public comment period closes on Friday, 10/6, and it's important to get as many people who use and care about the fields as we can to go to the site and explain why the fields are important.
PennDot has hired consultants who have created a website that explains their considerations for the I-95 project and allows for community members to comment on their preferences.
Here is the site:
https://aecomviz.com/I95-CSP-360/index.html
The main link takes you to a 360 degree “virtual” design room with many links. It’s similar to navigating in a video game by moving the cursor throughout the “room.”
Among other links, there is a “landing page” for the Walt Whitman Interchange with a link for feedback.
You enter your zip code and are presented with 5 different sections, but if you go to the first one, you can scroll through them all.
The consultants present 3 “concepts” for re-doing the Walt Whitman interchange. Only the HIGH concept preserves all of the fields.
At the end of this section, you can provide comments on which option you prefer and why.
You can also go back to the “Home” and complete a survey. There’s an opportunity for comment there as well.
Please share this information widely (social media, email lists, etc.), and please let me know if you have any questions.
