About us:πβ¨π
Stitches from the Heart was started based on our journey with our middle daughter, Casey. We found out at my 20 week ultrasound that Casey had a series of craniofacial anomalies. I gave birth at CHOP's Special Delivery Unit (SDU) with all the specialists on hand when our little miracle arrived a few days early! We met with Dr. Taylor the day she was born and reassured us she was in good hands. π
Casey had her first surgery at 9 months old. At 5 years old, she had the "big three" we had been waiting years for. This was 3 surgeries in 3 months. Dr. Taylor worked his magic and grafted cartilage to help build the other half of her nose and use a forehead flap to provide the most comparable skin texture and adequate blood supply. Several times a day for months I would tend to Casey's stitches. There was lots of swelling, bruising, tears, and delicate cleaning of her beautiful little face. π
With Casey's birth I got back into a hobby I had gotten away from: crocheting. The parallels of the stitches on her face and the stitches of the blankets I created were not lost on me. My mom and I both began to make baby blankets to donate to Dr. Taylor at every checkup appointment with him. These blankets are donated to families whose babies are going through huge life-changing surgeries to show them support that we've sat in the same OR waiting room, the same PICU, and the same gut-wrenching feeling of the unknown. To date, Casey has had 5 surgeries, but her journey isn't over as she has more growing to do. π±
Casey is now 8 years old and is more brave and confident than I could have ever imagined. Casey's scars are healing beautifully and she loves that her forehead scar is the same side and size as Harry Potter's scar (except her isn't a lightning bolt lol!). She is thriving and taking life by the horns. πͺπΌ
If you've recieved one of our blankets, we hope you are enjoying it! Stay positive. God bless you and your family. β¨
To this day, crocheting helps me transform my anxiety during trying times by keeping my hands busy and creating comfort blankets. This allows us to show our appreciation for all Dr. Taylor has done for our family by paying it forward to someone else going through something similar. Dr. Taylor is truly an angel on earth who has worked miracles with our daughter and from the deepest parts of our hearts we are forever grateful. π
With my husband by my side, prayers in our hearts, and lots and lots of yarn, we take everything one day at a time.π₯°
